Help the Micah Ministry

The Micah Ministry, an organization with whom the Kansas City Atheist Coalition and Kansas City Oasis regularly partner, was recently the target of burglary and vandalism. We and Kansas City Oasis are working together to raise funds for them to help replace what was lost and damaged.

What is the Micah Ministry?

The Micah Ministry is a charitable organization that serves the Kansas City community, focusing particularly along Independence Avenue, by providing meals, clothes, toiletries, and other necessities every Monday evening. They have also begun a “Care Beyond the Boulevard” program that provides free medical care to those who attend Micah and in nearby homeless communities.

What Was Lost or Damaged?

During the break-in, Micah suffered damage to two commercial refrigerators, office equipment, and security equipment. This equipment will either need to be fixed or replaced. Furthermore, Micah must reassess and repair any security issues with their building before they can reopen their doors. This means that there will be many people facing increasingly cold nights without much-needed blankets, warm food, and warm clothing.

KCAC and KC Oasis seek to raise funds for Micah to help cover these costs so that they can resume their work of giving to those in need in the community around them.

“Ministry”? Is KCAC Asking Money for a Church?

While the Micah Ministry is a religious organization in nature, it is not a church in the common sense of the word (for no one must sign a declaration of faith or attend a service to receive benefits). While it is a religious organization, the religious beliefs of those who organize and manage this program drive them to be open and accepting of everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, religious belief or nonbelief, gender identity, and many other demographics that might traditionally face difficulties at a religious organization. The Micah Ministry has always made KCAC and KC Oasis feel welcome, and we do not hesitate to say that all money collected here will be put to good use in support of those in need.

All donations collected by the Kansas City Atheist Coalition will go directly to the Micah Ministry, less transaction fees charged by GoFundMe.
