Dear All,
My name is Alain Nguyen. My wife, Cam Huong Tran (Amanda) and I have been married since 2007. We tried for many years to have a child, but were unsuccessful. In 2014 about 25 days after my father passed away, God answered our prayers and blessed us with a beautiful angel; our son Albert. Albert is perfect. He’s more amazing than Amanda and I could have ever imagined. He brings so much happiness to our little family. I don’t think it’s possible to love anything more than we love him. Which is why we are heartbroken.
April 15, 2016 was the worst day of our lives. Albert had been sick for a couple days, but when he woke up that day, he looked like he was in so much pain. We rushed him to the emergency room and we received news that would change our lives forever. After several tests, Albert was diagnosed with an extremely rare brain tumor known as a Teratoma Tumor. Since April of 2016, Albert has gone through several surgeries. The doctors had to implant an EVD (external ventricular drain) in order to relieve pressure in his head due to the buildup of spinal fluid around his brain caused by the tumor. He then had surgery in attempt to remove the tumor, along with relocating the EVD. Then, in order to drain the excess spinal fluid that had built up between his brain and his skull, the doctors had to insert what’s known as a VP Shunt. He is now required to visit the Dr. every month for an MRI and lumbar puncture in order to retrieve spinal fluid for testing. As of last month, we were told that there is still a collection of fluid on the right side of his skull that could require another surgery.
As the parents, we see our son in so much pain and it breaks our hearts. He is such a little fighter! He has had more surgeries in 2 years than most people have in their entire lives. He continues to have constant headaches, and he has scars that will be with him for life. We are willing to do anything to make all the pain go away, but we feel helpless. We try and look at the positives in everything and we are so thankful that we still have our angel here with us. We cherish every moment we get to spend with him! However, we do not know what the future holds. Every time he falls, throws up for no reason, laughs or cries, our hearts race because we don’t know what might be happening to him. We are so scared!
Right now all we can do is pray. We pray that he can grow up like every 2 year old should; with his biggest concern being what toy he’s going to play with next instead of when his next surgery might be.
My family and I have gone through an extremely tough time emotionally and financially. We are working extremely hard in attempt to keep up with the bills from doctor visits and surgeries; however, it seems that it is near impossible. For the last several months we have had to take several unpaid days off work in order to be with our son. This is taking a huge financial toll on us. Our debt up to this point is 15k and it is going to continue to increase until our boy is freed from this sickness. We ask that you pray for our boy, and if at all possible, please consider a donation. Even the smallest amount will be much appreciated and will go a long way.
