Natalie's Medical Fund

Donation protected
Natalie Nardone is a sweet and outgoing 10 year old who is adventurous, loves to dance, and is an aspiring singer. She loves her big extended family and looks forward to time at the Jersey Shore every summer. She and her family are active in Willow Grove Presbyterian Church in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Her life is full of learning, growing, and exploring.

Natalie and her family had a big shock in April. She suffered an injury during baseball practice. As a result of that injury, she lost hearing in both ears and suddenly became profoundly deaf.

After weeks of medical treatments, learning a new way to communicate, and many prayers, she regained a small amount of hearing in her left ear and now falls into the category of moderately severe hearing loss. She has a small window of hearing on the left side when assisted with a hearing aid. Her right side hearing is unusable due to severe recruitment issues where anything she can hear causes her pain.

After many months of evaluations and testing, her awesome medical team at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia recommended a cochlear implant (CI) for the right side. Natalie underwent surgery on September 19th for a CI and it was successful. While this doesn’t give her back the hearing she had prior to the accident, it will provide her with an improved hearing experience much greater than she has currently. She is now bionic!

Post surgery will be a lot of work for her. The brain has to learn how to take the sounds in a digital format and tie them to sounds her brain remembers. Many months of hard work are ahead for sweet and strong Natalie. She will also need to return the loaner hearing aids and get her own more sophisticated one that can partner with the CI.

Marci and Dave Nardone are amazing parents who are helping Natalie face this life changing injury and finding ways to cover the costs. They have insurance that will cover some of the costs of the surgery and equipment. However, nearly 50% of all the costs are not covered. This puts a great financial and emotional strain on the Nardones. Their church, Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, along with family and friends, are helping to raise funds for medical costs, hearing equipment related to the CI, adaptive technologies, and a new sophisticated hearing aid for her left ear.

Please continue to pray for Natalie and send her love, positive energy, encouragement or monetary donations. You may contact the church directly for more information and donation options. [email redacted]

Please continue to check back to monitor Natalie’s progress and thank you for supporting this amazing family!
