Cat's emergency medical treatment

This is our family cat, Jack. We rescued him as a stray several years ago and he's been a loving member of our house ever since. My sister found him in a parking lot, starved and missing an eye. We had him treated as best as we could at the time, and attempted to locate an owner. We never found an owner for him, and eventually we kept him ourself instead of turning him over to a pound or shelter where he likely would have been euthanized due to his injuries making him unlikely to be adopted. 

Unfortunately, last night we discovered that Jack was badly injured in a fight with another animal. One of his teeth was broken, and according to the vet, it developed into an abscess that has infected his sinus cavities. Blood and/or pus is leaking from his nostril and his eye socket. Additionally, the swelling of his face has made it difficult for him to eat, drink, and likely difficult to breath as well. 

The vet informed us the treatment could cost nearly $1000 to have the tooth removed, plus an additional $150 we have been charged for an exam fee and antibiotics.

We are a low income family, and there is no way we can afford such large medical fees for a pet. Even if the antibiotics help fight the infection, the broken tooth remains in his mouth and will continue to cause health issues until it is removed. Simply put, we have only two choices left to us: Turn to crowd funding to attempt to raise enough for the operation in the next few days, or have our cat put to sleep to spare him the pain.
