For my father, David B LaBadie, family meant so much more than who he was related to. He touched so many lives in so many wonderful ways. He was a constant presence in Sleepy Hollow, IL while managing their website and at one time the website for the Police Department. He assisted with the their Special Olympics of Illinois fundraisers as well as those for Shop with a Cop programs. He was also the media director for the Illinois Park Law Enforcement Association. He was a a retiree after 30 years of plowing snow and working on street repairs in Chicago.
But beyond all of that, he was a huge part of the lives of his best friends (Sue) grandchildren, from the day each and every one of them were born. He was their family, just not by blood. He was a grandfather to my step children and a great grandfather to my step grandchildren. A father-in-law to my wife, Veronica. And even after 30 years of divorce, a constant and regular presence in the life of my mother.
David passed away September 27th, 2016 just after 10pm after a nearly 3 week battle from complications following triple bypass surgery. He left behind so many broken hearts of friends and family alike. Unfortunately his filekeeping was a disaster and while he always told us he had a life insurance policy for the inevitable, it turns out we are unable to find one.
So, I'm writing to you all tonight to ask for help to cover his final expenses. We're planning for two memorial services at this time. One in the Sleepy Hollow/Carpentersville, IL area and one in Chicago where he was born and raised.
His wishes when he passed were always to be cremated and have his ashes spread over Huntington Beach pier in Huntingon Beach, CA so he could be with his brother, my Uncle Al. One way, or another I intend to make that happen, but there is no way my wife and I can do any of these things in our own current financial situation. So I'm hoping that with all the lives he's touched that this plea for help can assist us in making his final wishes come true.
