Canyon FFA National Competition

Donation protected
We are members of the Canyon FFA . We have 9 students who have qualified for our National Contest in 3 different events. Our school district does not fund travel to national events. We are coming to you for help today.

Seven students will be competing in the agricultural issues forum career development event. They will do a 15 minute presentation over the pro's and con's of Labeling Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO). These students have done 31 different presentations to various community organizations and elected officials across the state of Texas. This is the first time the Canyon FFA has qualified for nationals in this event and we want desperately to represent our state on the national level.

Additionally, we have two students who have qualified in a National Proficiency Award Area and will be competing for a national championship in their award areas.

In Agriculture Services, we have a student who has developed his own mobile application called StockStat. This app is used in the stock show industry to help parents, students, agriscience teachers and county extension agents better manage their logistical responsibilities at livestock shows.

In Home and Community Development, we have a student who has done over 5,000 hours of community service for our community through working with the junior fire explorers program, mowing lawns for the elderly, and helping to rebuild and modernize houses for those less fortunate.

Competing at national convention is a dream for all of us. We have put in countless hours of preparation for these events. If you are passionate about the GMO labeling debate, technology use in agriculture, or community service, you would be supporting 9 individuals, 2 teachers, and an entire school and community who want to take these topics to the highest level possible in the FFA.

The funds will be used in the following ways:

1. Travel to National Convention - (Canyon, Tx to Indianapolis, Indiana). We will travel in two suburbans over two days. While this is less efficient, it is also much cheaper than flying everyone to Indianapolis.

2. Meals - Per school district guidelines, students will be given $26 per day for meals and snacks. Teachers will be given $31 per day.

3. Hotels - We have 6 hotel rooms in downtown Indianapolis for 5 nights. We also have 6 rooms for two nights while we are traveling.

4. Convention registration - We will also fund the convention registration with the funds donated.

We will leave for National Convention October 17th and return October 23rd. We need the funds soon. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated by our students, our teachers, and our community.
