Welcome to Avery's Epilepsy Journey.
Avery is an intelligent, fearless six year old with a contagious smile. She resides in a quaint cabin, tucked between the knotty pines of northern Minnesota, with her mother, father, and younger sister. She attends kindergarten at the local elementary school. She is an eager child, overflowing with creativity and curiosity and compassion.
In May of 2016, Avery was diagnosed as epileptic. She has already been taken to several appointments in the Fargo, North Dakota area for treatment. The pediatric neurologist that had made the diagnosis, and who had been treating Avery, recently left his position with the clinic that she was receiving care through, and because of this, she has been left without a primary care doctor. Unfortunately, the remaining pediatric neurologists at the previous clinic are either unwilling to work with her or will not have the time to see her until December. Needless to say, we are less than impressed with them.
Avery has since been referred to a new pediatric neurologist in St. Paul, Minnesota, who we are hoping is going to be willing to care for her when needed, and will provide our family with the answers that we deserve.
However, since her dianosis and because of where we reside, unforseen traveling expenses have become a controversy for our family. Each trip taken to bring Avery to visit the neurologist is, roughly, a 400 mile drive, which greatly impacts our monthly budget.
We are seeking donations that will go towards the basic traveling expenses for Avery's appointments; i.e. fuel for our vehicle, meals for our family, possible hotel rooms, etc. The donations will also be used to help pay for any of Avery's medical bills, medication, etc.
We are looking into purchasing a special watch for Avery, that has the ability to detect when a seizure is about to begin. The watch will be able to alert us, so we can be better prepared for when it happens. If we raise enough, the donations will be used for this as well.
This has become such a difficult journey for our family, and especially, for Avery. She has such a free-spirit. She is a light to all who are graced with her presence. It is unimaginable, for those who care so deeply for her, to witness her battling such a ruthless medical condition. She is surrounded by an infinite amount of support, though, and she is the bravest child that we know. She will conquer this. We will conquer this, together.
Thank you, immensely, for giving us this opportunity to have one less worry during this challenging time in our lives. Each of us are beyond grateful for your selfless heart. Your genorosity does not go unnoticed.
