Shelli Snyder Medical & Cheer Fund
As of today (September 19th), Shelli is currently in a hospital. Those of you who know Shelli know how strong she is in body, mind, and spirit. She has been there for all of us to help make cycling safer and better for Cleveland. It's time for us to be there for her.
All funds raised will go directly to Shelli (by way of her mom, Monica) to pay for her medical expenses, ice cream, and good cheer. Keep up your prayers and good thoughts, and give a little as well.
Thank you- Chris, fellow Bike Cleveland Board Member, and recipient of many a Shelli draft through Ohio
While this has been entirely Shelli's battle, each and every one of you has been by her side, keeping her up, and making Friday possible. The fight isn't over, but it's nearly won. Thank you.
Shelli will continue her rehab in Washington, but with the benefit of both Max (the Yeti) and Hippo (the cat) by her side. If you are able, I know that continued support would be very, very welcome.
We're looking forward to letting you all know that she's back on a bike, and inviting you for a ride. Thank you.- Chris
It's been 105 days since Shelli began her long, arduous journey to recovery. Those of us who have spent any amount of time with her know of her mental, emotional, and physical strength and her determination. And, she has been drawing from all of that, especially in these last few weeks of therapy.
Her workday starts at 9 a.m., and includes physical, occupational, and speech therapy throughout. She is using an electrical vertical assistance walker, and works through the pain, which can be considerable, especially on her left side. But, through it all, she can laugh and joke.
106 days ago, she did think she would need to spend New Years Eve working on regaining her strength. But, 104 days ago, we weren't sure if she could have the chance to work on regaining her strength on New Years Eve.
Despite all of each of our struggles, we still have much to be thankful for. We're especially thankful for each of you who give and continue to give. After much consideration, we have increased our fundraising goal to $125,000. It's been a while since we have had to do this, but the more active and strong Shelli is, the more the need is to keep up the therapy beyond what insurance can cover. She can do this, and I believe that we can as well.
Happy New Year, everybody. Let's power through 2017 together.
Today Shelli passed her swallow test which means SHE ATE ICE CREAM TODAY!!! Shelli is now allowed to eat and drink. Shelli has been working hard in therapy and we will find out in the next few days if she will be entering the Intensive Brain Rehab program through Metro. Shelli is talking when she isn't too exhausted from all her hard work in PT and as you have seen posted or liked something on occasion on Facebook. Shelli is sitting sometimes unassisted on the therapy mat. Her Yeti visits every weekend and of course that lifts her spirits. She <3 's all of you so very much!!! Thank you for your continued support!!!!"
First, I want to give you my sincerest apologies for being lax in giving you an update. I could go on about how busy the holidays are or being out of town or being trapped under a heavy object (two of these three excuses are true), but instead, I'll give you a quick update.
1. Our Shelli is going through some intense physical therapy. Her right side is still stronger than her left, but she is indeed moving with purpose.
2. She can also sit upright on her therapy mat for up to ten minutes at a time.
3. She can stand for a few minutes at a time.
4. Shelli is communicating through writing...
5. And keyboard...
6. And talking...
7. And is back on social media.
Basically, she is fighting, and fighting hard to get out of the hospital and into full-time rehab. She knows how much you all have been pulling for her.
I'll try to get updates out more often. But, suffice to say, we are all darn grateful for each of you, and for the gift that continues to be Shelli.- Chris
Soooo...yesterday I asked (via Twitter) comedian and "Talking Dead" host Chris Hardwick to please retweet the link to this Go Fund Me page (I've met him a few times and he's super sweet). Chris went further and posted the link on his Facebook page AND donated to the fund himself! Considering the man has a bajillion fans and social media followers, this could really help Shelli's fund!
As I mentioned Shelli use to work for me back in Cleveland which is where my company is still located, however I now live in Billings, MT so if Shelli (or any family and friends) needs a place to stay and recover that is close by (well 8 hours close) she is more than welcome to stay with us. We have a 20 acre horse ranch off the Yellowstone river, so not a bad place to get better!
Shelli is one of my best friends and an all around EPIC awesome chick. She introduced me to touring, urban riding, and so much more. I've never met such a strong woman. Shelli....you are loved by more than you can imagine. Stay strong and fight like you never have before. We are all here fighting with you sister. Love you to pieces and am looking forward to our next bike ride together!
I personally don't know Shelli, but I have ridden a few rides where she was in attendance... naturally I could not keep up with her. Phenomenal lady and I know she is greatly LOVED by her Cleveland bike family. I do know Laura and Kathy and Shelli could not have two of her very best friends by her side through this struggle. Love to you Shelli, Kathy and Laura and her family!!
I have to say something to you Chris. You are an unbelievable friend! I am so blown away by your organization of the Go Fund Me campaign for Shelli and your devoted and thoughtful posts. You, sir have literally created a movement. You are a model of what the word FRIEND means. You have kept everyone in the loop when everyone has been on pins and needles. You should get some rest yourself. All I can say is WOW! You are a beacon of light.
Shelli, Just wanted to say that we love you and are rooting for you. You are such an inspiration, not only in your brave, difficult journey, but in your amazing strength following this crash. Wish we could be there to tell you in person. Keep fighting! Love, Angie, Jeff and Kevin.
I have posted this elsewhere, but it describes our Free Spirit Shelli & her fighting, Free spirit: A few years ago, I bought an old red bicycle with the words Free Spirit written across its side - which is exactly what I felt like when I rode it down the street in a tie-dyed dress...... Christopher, thank you for the updates on Shelli's condition. After the tragic news it is good to know, instead of wonder, how she is doing. As a fellow ski club member, I knew what a positive force she was in the Cleveland area, but the outpouring of prayers, giving, and attention clearly shows it. I join others in praying for Shelli and her family.
Like all of you, I'm sure, my heart just sank when I heard and read what happened to Shelli. I'm not much of a facebooker but have been following her adventure on it. It was so motivating and exciting to follow. I was heartbroke and angered to see her cheated and hurt this way. I pray for you everyday Shelli and have faith we will cycle and ski together in the near future. God is with you.
I have had the opportunity to ride and ski with Shelli a few times. Her zest for life is unmatched. She is now in the fight of her life. I am praying for her and am amazed by the lives she has touched and the support of our community. She is the real Wonder Woman...
Speedy recovery. We are going through something far too similar. I traveled safely from Reno, NV to Poland, OH in June in a self supported ride, only to crash and suffer a spinal column injury early in September. I spent 10 days in the hospital. I'm in a neck brace now champing at the bit. As soon as the neurosurgeon says I can, I'm jumping on that bike! Be strong and focus on your future! Oh, and be glad you didn't tear your nose off in the crash like me! (no joke)
