CHOA: Restoring Hope

Donation protected
Hello! I'm Patrick Richardson and I just want to thank you so much for even taking the time to even navigate to this page. I am a  student at Georgia State University who, along with 7 other students, (Kyle Barry, Timberli Williams, Kristen Mcclinton, Nevin Merchant, Holly Lyle, Brian Phan, and Nguyen Huynh) was assigned a semester long project to raise $250 for a charity of our choice. We decided that we would go above and beyond this and try to raise $1,000 to the Children's Hospital of Atlanta. We chose this particular charity because 2 of our group members have had prior experiences with children's hospital's in Birmingham and Oakland. Their personal stories will be posted below.

We will not use this GoFundMe as our only source of revenue. Our group will hold bake sales, sell dog treats on the Atlanta Beltline (Sponsorship by Citydog Market and Brixtix Bakery pending)
, and design/sell coloring books. This GoFundMe is just a way to reach out to people who want to donate towards the charity but can't make any of the personal commutes to our events we will be holding. Please feel free to get in contact with me if you need any information on any of the events we have planned (IG/Twitter: @ShaiNeon).

Our group would be forever grateful for you donating ANY amount of money towards our goal. ANY amount of money helps. Anything will forever be better than nothing. These amazing kids at the Children's Hospital of Atlanta still have a whole world to explore, your one penny can unlock a lifetime of memories. Thank you again for your time. More importantly, thank you for making a difference.

Personal Stories:

Growing up I spent a great amount of time within hospitals, primarily Children’s Hospital at Birmingham and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. At a young age, my family and I spent time out of the country visiting relatives in Honduras. However, upon returning back to the states one year my parents noticed that I was unable to physically walk. Through this detrimental observation, my parents rushed me to the hospital only to find out that I had been diagnosed with Lupus, an auto-immune condition that can affect any part of the body. From one diagnosis came another where I later found out in middle school that I would have to bear through Hashimoto’s Hypo-thyroiditis. Although I had to endure through the course of these situations, the time, work, and dedication would not have been possible without the help of physicians through divisions of Children’s Hospital. In addition to my experiences, I also spent time with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta when my brother was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Overall, Children’s Hospital played a large effort in helping him transition from a lifestyle where he didn’t have to worry about dietary consumptions on a daily basis to balancing health needs consistently in order to survive. –Timberli Williams, patient of Children’s Hospital at Birmingham

.Children's Healthcare organizations hold a special place in my heart because just like countless other kids and young adults, I owe my life to them. When I was just a baby, 6 months old to be exact, my mother noticed one day that as she held me my head did not fit smoothly and evenly into the palm of her hand. My parents did not take any chances thankfully and took me to my general pediatrician where he advised we speak with a neurologist for a second opinion. It turns out that I was born with the rarest form of craniosynostosis, lambdoid synostosis. This meant that the bones in my skull were fusing too quickly and not allowing adequate space for my brain to grow. I underwent a lifesaving procedure to remove excess skull and install a metal plate and screws into my head. The dedicated and tireless efforts of the staff at the Children's Hospital at Oakland saved my life, and I would not be the man I am today without them.  -Kyle Barry, patient of Children’s Hospital at Oakland
