Animal Rescue Efforts

$2,990 of $6,000 goal

I live in rural Texas, and therefore, like others living in rural areas, I'm the target for people who dump their unwanted cats or dogs. Seeing animals suffer in so many different ways is a difficult thing to see. I've seen some animals so emaciated from being "lost" or dumped, they couldn't eat food at first. I've seen stray animals be killed on the roads, because they were trying to eat some piece of the previous animal that was killed. I've seen kittens walk into traffic out in the middle of nowhere on some of the country roads of Texas. I've seen the results of these cats and dogs being attacked by predators.  When a cat or dog comes by my place because they smell water or something they think could be food, I found myself unwilling to turn them away. But the ever-increasing expenses of food and vet bills are very difficult on my limited budget.

I'm currently caring for (as of Jan, 2019) 18 animals after many months of failed attempts to find whatever previous owner might have existed. I expect more will find their way here, although, I know other rural residents have this happen, too.

Finally, I will not foster any indifference and cruelty to these animals that others sometimes suggest or practice. These no-longer wanted pets have done nothing but try to return affection/love to human beings.  And as long as I can, I will not ignore their needs. My hope is that one day someone will become their family. Until then, I am their family and this is my GoFundMe effort to help with food and increasing vet bills.

For those people/friends who have been helping me care for the cats and dogs which have been dumped in my area, I first want to tell you, **Thank You**. (For anyone who has ever dumped an animal, please Stop - because there are other more humane options. The fact is that the cats and dogs become frightened and starved - not approachable by people. Only a lucky few eventually will find a life with another caretaker, again. Others face a worse life, ending in death from vehicles and predators.)

For the people who help, I appreciate each instance you give assistance and support to these rescue efforts. Whether donating food or donating money, you are helping make sure very real and "worth-loving" cats and dogs are given whatever we can offer. We do the best we can with what we've got. This is why I continue to ask for people for their help. This is why I ask you for your help.

Some of the cats and dogs need veterinary care, and this is expensive and out of my reach by myself. My personal budget doesn't cover the costs. If you can help in any way, then I'm asking you to go to my GoFundMe page. The money does indeed go to help the animals.

[The photo is of "Chocolate". So named because of the chocolate around her mouth. I told her that I named her this because everyone loves chocolate.]

While some may not like the idea of my taking care of the many dogs and cats that God has brought to my place, I can say I've been enriched, because I witness and receive their appreciation and affection (tails wagging and more.)
Please, consider helping to cover the cost of food, medicine and veterinary fees. While I'm able to cover a major portion of the costs, because of your donations which all of you friends provide, we are able to help give these loving cats and dogs food and care - and a life that I hope is way better than their being strays around dumpsters. All the animals that *We* care for here, have been strays or dumped. Please give if you can.

I must make a confession. I wonder sometimes what it might be like to have only 1 or 2 animals with me. I wonder how other people's lives are with only 1 or 2 pets. I confess that I do. But, then I think I cannot imagine not caring for each of these animals. Maybe parents think like that sometimes, also.
Relationships grow, especially since I've given all of them names. Each of them has their own personality, likes and dislikes. They all have their own unique voices, as well. I can hear their voices and know who is making the sound.
I started rescuing after I finished my bach. degree in college. I found 2 small puppies on the side of the road in rural Texas. My car pulled over and I caught them both - no houses around - no one I asked claimed them. One soon passed away, but Sobig, the other one, was with me for almost 16 years. Sobig became famous at my graduate school, because I took her to school with me from time to time. She was the only one with me for all her years, so I do know what it's like. I can't yet find a digital photo of her, but I hope to post one when I can find one.
(The photo below is of "Miracle" - so named because as a kitten, she disappeared for 36 hours. With coyotes and foxes nearby, I prayed asking for a miracle in finding her and she appeared within 60 seconds.)

It's time for me to ask, again. Funds to help the animals are running out. My animal food will soon run out. I'm asking for your help to continue to feed and care for the animals. I've acquired a "health related expenses only" credit card to help cover vet bills only, which have been mounting. If you are able, and I know many are not, but if you are, please go to my GoFundMe page to donate. And as always, thank you.

Looks like all these 4-leggeds are your teachers, Jody. I know how that works as all my children have 4 legs and teach me so much that humans often miss.
