Help a Future Problem Solver!

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Paige, a 6th grader at Fairhaven Middle School in Bellingham, Washington. I need your help in attending the International Competition for the Future Problem Solving Program.

Over the past year, I’ve been a part of a team event called Future Problem Solvers (FPS). In FPS, we are given a future scene (a possible scene of what the future could be like) and come up with possible challenges from the scene. After that, we try to come up with solutions that can solve those challenges. Because my team did really well in the “Write”, (a competition for trying to come up with the most plausible, original, and well written challenges and solutions) we were able to qualify for going to the state competition along with several other teams from our school and district.

The thing is, while my team did really well in the Washington State competition (we came in 5th place out of all of the junior division, which probably was about 40 teams!), we didn’t score quite high enough to make it to the international competition. However, another 6th grade team from my school (Fairhaven Middle School) came in 1st in the junior division, so they get to go to the international competition in Lansing, Michigan and compete with teams from across the world.

They’ve asked me to go as an alternate, in case any team members get sick, to help support their team, and to take part in a variety of side competitions. I’m really thrilled about this chance to go, especially because their team is the first team to go from our district! The problem is, while my school is helping provide money for the main team to attend, any alternates have to pay their own expenses for the trip.

The cost for attending is about $1100, which includes airfare, registration, lodging, and meals. Please, help me make the chance to attend this event happen! I’ll have the chance to engage in a separate competition, meet kids from across the planet, and I’ll be able to learn more about how to think, and about how I can apply my mind to solve the problems the world might face in the future.

If you can, I really appreciate you donating what you can to help make this happen. If you’d rather donate in person, I’m also at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Bellingham most Saturdays, playing fiddle on my violin . As long as it’s not raining, I’ll be there from around 10:30 to noon. Stop by and say hi!

If you help me do this, I will make sure to do my absolute best at internationals, and to enjoy this experience at the fullest. If you would like to learn more about the competition, the website is here .

Thank you so much for your help!!!
