Hi there! I'm Malia. I'm a post-bac student working on an environmental science degree at PSU. While I'm working on my degree I'm also working at the library at PSU as a student worker. While it's a great job in terms of flexibility of work hours, the pay sucks. Even with the kindness of my housemates, I make just enough to make the ends meet with little to nothing left over. Needless to say, my savings (what little there was to begin with) are shot.
I've recently had some medical problems, so I've been out sick at work a lot the past few months. As one can imagine, this doesn't help my financial situation lately. The money that I'd been saving for getting an eye exam and new glasses has gone to other medical expenses.
Currently, I'm relying on my student loan dispersement for next quarter and hoping that when I get that I'll be able to pay bills and afford some necessary things. However, that's tricky since by the time I pay for things like a bus pass, books, and bills that I've been paying the bare minimum on, I'm usually out of money pretty fast.
If I have to take the cost of an eye exam and new glasses out of that as well, things are going to get pretty tight pretty fast again.
Any money donated will be used towards the cost of an eye exam and new glasses. The computer screen is blurry and makes my head ache, it's time for a new prescription. I have an eye exam in a week. Ideally, I'd like to not have to dip into student loan money for that.
It's my vision, it's really important that I be able to see, especially with a new quarter starting soon.
I hate asking for help with finances, but it is a pride that I've had to overcome a lot recently. But I feel that I have asked my housemates for all the help that I can, and my parents are not in much position to give having their own troubles. I would be so grateful.
