Please help our Dad

April 13th 2016 our father ( Rick Slade) was diagnosed with prostate cancer, also the day that he realised that he is not invincible. He is the most caring, loving and giving father one could ask for, he has raised four children and we write this on behalf of him to help fund his essential surgery to save his life. Dad is always helping out others and never shy’s away to those in need, we hope to be able to fund his surgery as it is essential to his health and wellbeing.

Our dad has been advised by his Doctor to have surgery to remove his prostate as soon as possible as he is considered young. (57) Prostate cancer is rated on the Gleason scale named after the Doctor who is credited with this measurement for prostate cancer. Our Dad’s cancer has been rated 7 out of 10 with one being low and 10 being high. The Gleason grading system is used to help evaluate the prognosis of men with prostate cancer using samples from a prostate biopsy. Together with other parameters, it is incorporated into a strategy of prostate cancer staging which predicts prognosis and helps guide therapy. There is every indication we have caught it early and that the cancer is considered to be isolated to the prostate. Removal of the prostate is a more certain and immediate way of removing the body of cancer over radiation and hormone treatment. He has been advised that the best way to have this procedure is by having robotic prostate cancer surgery using the da vinci robotic system. This minimally invasive procedure employs the latest advancements in robotics and computer technology to completely remove the cancerous prostate. This type of surgery enables improved recovery results and helps a patient return to a normal way of life with the preservation of the endo pelvic fascia and neurovascular nerve bundles as well as the elimination of cautery, all contributing to reduce nerve damage and speed recovery.

Dad has been quoted approximately $25,000 which is a major speed bump on the road of life as he has no private health cover.  As a family we have suggested Go Fund Me as a way of allowing friends and even strangers to help him receive this needed lifesaving surgery. It is hard to come forward in this way of requesting money but we have no other way of funding this operation and we desperately need your help, even $1.00 will be greatly appreciated as it will be $1.00 towards the goal amount.  All money received will be used solely for the payment of this surgery and hospital expenses.

We appreciate your support more than you will ever know.
