Be a Blessing to the Brookshires

Hello!  My name is Jennifer Griffin.  God placed a beautiful friendship in my life when He allowed Robin Brookshire and I to become friends.  Here is a snippet of what has taken place in their lives in the past few months.  Please support them as God leads and more than anything, please be in prayer for them.

In August 2016, Rob Brookshire was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer that has spread to his lymph nodes and bones; he now has hospice care. He lives in Indiana with his wife of 33 years and two daughters.

Here is an overview of this journey from the Brookshires:

"This summer Rob seemed to be fighting a lingering cold during July and August, but as the weeks passed without recovery, we wondered if it was something more like bronchitis or pneumonia. After an x-ray and CT scan on August 24th, Rob was diagnosed with lung cancer. After further testing, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer, specifically Non-Small Cell Adenocarcinoma. The cancer has spread to a large mass on his neck, the lymph nodes between his lungs, in two vertebrae, and in both of his hip bones, in addition to the large mass on the upper lobe of his right lung that was originally found.

Rob suffers from a cough that continues to worsen, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing, extreme fatigue, and the pain and discomfort in his chest and neck due to pressure from the growing cancer. It is also difficult for him to talk. His coughing is worse at night, making rest and sleep very difficult. He is fighting every day, but we realize he also gets weaker by the day. He is now on oxygen and receiving hospice care.

While this diagnosis took us completely by surprise, we continue to put our trust in the Lord. Each week we are faced with new challenges due the fast moving and aggressive nature of the cancer. God has been merciful and loving toward us, giving us the peace and strength for each day. While there are sure to be more tough times ahead, we know that He will give us the grace for each moment as they come.

We are praying for healing, wisdom, comfort, joy, and peace as we walk this hard road. We desire God to be glorified, and would be so thankful to have you join us in prayer!

Rob has been such a loving husband and father and faithful provider. The man who has always worked with his hands and had ideas and projects in the works is no longer able to do those things he loved. While we do not know what God has in store for our future, we are thankful for each and every day He blesses us with.

We have been so blessed by the prayers, love, help, and support of so many - family, church family, friends near and far - during this time. Many have asked how you can help us in a more tangible way, even if it is from afar. We're still trying to wrap our minds around everything going on and working toward being prepared for what God may have in store for us. We realize there may be unexpected expenses and needs on this journey. But more than anything, we value your love and prayers!"
