Help Fix Jeep That Saved Our Lives

Donation protected
On September 2nd, Larissa and I made the trip in my Jeep to the Faerieworlds event for camping and a fun weekend at Horning's Hideout outside of Portland, Oregon. As we were setting up camp, we realized a few important items were missing, so we headed up to the main road and Larissa used her GPS to find us a store. Her phone said there was a place about 8.5 miles away, and so we followed the directions. which lead us down an extremely sharp, winding road toward Scappoose.

We had been driving for quite some time when we realized that this trip was much farther than 8.5 miles, but we decided to keep going. There had been recent rain and the pavement was very slick. We took a sharp turn, going only about 25 mph, but even at that slow speed, there was no way to avoid sliding off the road, even with my brakes fully depressed. It was like a dream. We crashed through the ferns and rocks, down a steep embankment. At one point, we were facing straight down as we continued to crash and slide. The jeep turned on its left side and almost flipped over, but we were finally stopped by a pair of trees and landed right-side-up, terrified and shaken. Miraculously, we were unharmed. We climbed away from the wreckage, back onto the road, and Larissa called 911. When help arrived, a report was filed and the jeep was pulled back up to the road. Amazingly enough, after a tire change, we were able to drive away from the accident.

Since I only have liability insurance, none of the damages are covered and I will have to pay to fix everything out of my own pocket. The hard-top has been smashed and needs to be completely repleced. I considered a soft top before, but if we had been using one of those, we probably would have died, so I need a new hard top. There is also some body damage and the alignment is off. To add to this, Larissa's car also needs some repairs before she can drive it again. We can only guess how much it will cost to repair both vehicles fully, so hopefully what we are asking for will cover everything.

This was a terrifying experience and we could very easily have been killed or severely injured. We are very grateful to be alive, but now we need reliable transportation. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hard Top - $2,400
Body Work - $1,200 or more
Alignment - $100 (Approx.)
