A Playground for All

Donation protected
We are overwhelmed with the tremendous response of donations!! We didn't realize how quickly we would meet the $5,000 goal with the generosity of our community. This was planned as one of many fundraisers. We have decided to raise the amount of our goal in an attempt to reach ever so closer to our $45,000 project. Thank you for your kindness!!

As an elementary special education teacher of students with moderate intellectual disabilities, we are a classroom that teaches more than just academics. My students are not only learning reading and math skills, but the social and functional skills they need to be a great friend and peer. They are also working to strengthen their speech, fine motor, and gross motor skills every day. We are a classroom full of personality, love, and and a desire to be included in the world around us.

One of the greatest times that my students are able to strengthen their gross motor and social skills is on the playground.  It is a time where my students can be included with each other and their school-aged peers. It is a common ground for my students and the general education and a time where their disabilities do not have to be an obstacle.

In an effort to continue strengthening the inclusive atmosphere we have in the school, we are raising money to obtain a new handicap accessible playground that allows for all individuals to play on it.

The money raised will go directly to the new playground. We will change the rubber mulch to a bonded rubber flooring so that wheelchairs can navigate through the playground easily with their peers. We will also build a new playground structure that has a ramp so that all students can have access to it. The playground will also be built with components that strengthen the gross motor skills that my students need. This GoFundMe is one of a few fundraisers we are doing to reach the $45,000 project. We will need the funds by the beginning of November to start building the structure.  The end goal is to have a new playground by the end of the spring semester for the students to enjoy.

Funding this project would mean the world to my students! The playground is not only an enjoyable place for the students to just be kids, but to interact with their peers at their level. It would be a place where everyone is accepted, loved, and friendships are built.
