Rachel's Medical Recovery Fund

Early in the morning of Tuesday, August 31st, 2016, Rachel Macchietto was a passenger on her boyfriend’s motorcycle headed east on Dodge Street in Omaha, Nebraska.  It was Jed’s 28th birthday and they had been bowling.  At the intersection of 78th and Dodge, Jed’s motorcycle struck a SUV.  Jed died at the scene and Rachel was propelled over the SUV and additional 35 feet. Paramedics arrived at the scene a short time later, performing CPR while in route to UMNC Trauma Emergency Room.  We almost lost Rachel that early morning, but she is a fighter.  Rachel sustained a major head injury, broken pelvis, 2 crack vertebras, broken jaw, lacerated spleen, and many bumps, scrapes, and bruises.  For the first two days there were no guarantees, as her head trauma was severe.  Two days after the accident she said her first words, five days out she was talking in short sentences and shows signs of her old self.  Doctors and medical staff are amazed at the rate that she has turned around.  When the first responders at the scene of the accident heard about her progress we received word from the assistant fire chief of the OFD that they were “over the moon” with happiness as “they had never seen someone in her condition come back so quickly from injuries that they thought would take her life.” Rachel has months of rehabilitation and a long road ahead.  Prior to the accident, she held two jobs and was a part-time student. Monies donated to this site will aid Rachel in her recovery. Thank you so much for your support.
