Erin's Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
On June 27th, my sister Erin who is 27 years old suffered a severe stroke and they found 5 dissections in the brain. The stroke affected the basilar area of the brain, which normally has a 90% mortality rate. She went through successful surgery to remove clotting in her vertebral artery, which appears to have been caused by dissections found in the artery. It was critical the clot be surgically removed before it dislodged to the main artery. To the surprise of the doctor’s, Erin acknowledged and recognized her surroundings during recovery.

Erin spent three and a half weeks in the intensive care unit at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and another three and a half weeks at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC). The stroke initially left Erin completely paralyzed on her right side. She has made remarkable progress and is re-learning to walk, but there's still a long road ahead. She has significant deficits with her right arm and is continuing grueling outpatient rehabilitation through RIC twice a week, 6 hours each day.

Erin is a pharmacist and is currently unable to work. She has significantly reduced short term disability and increased expenses. The money we raise will be put towards the following areas:
-Out of pocket expenses for medical bills and 15+ medications
-Travel and lodging for multiple doctor visits and medical tests
-Specialized living items (cutting boards, weighted silverware and writing utensils) for people who have limited use of one of their arms or hands
-Car adaptations
-Student loans
-Monthly living expenses
-Additional rehabilitation costs (as we may not be able to appeal maximum insurance benefits)

Any donation or prayers would be appreciated. Please share this page with family and friends.
