Hello, I'm Sami. I'm currently 19 years old and am fighting every day of my life to keep going and not let this illness ruin me. I was diagnosed with C-Difficile (C. Diff.) infection in my gut which kills nearly 30,000 people a year and is a very serious, contagious infection. Please take the time to read my story and possibly spread the word or help out:
Recently at the end of April 2016 I came down feeling extremely sick. Any details would be too much information, but please just know it was bad. It took me until July to finally accept that something was wrong and that it wasn't just my anxiety or depression getting the worst of me. My doctor had recommended me to go to a GI specialist for the problems I was talking about. A GI is someone who specializes gastrointestinal and gut issues. I went in thinking that I simply might stomach issues and maybe IBS. They scheduled me bloodwork, stool samples, colonoscopy, and endoscopy procedures.
A day before my procedure I got a very serious phone call from my GI specialist saying my colonoscopy will be canceled because they found a bad bacteria called C-Diff in my intestinal tract. C-Diff is a very serious bacteria, it is highly contagious and weakens people's immune system so terribly bad. Many of the symptoms are non stop Diarrhea, causing severe dehydration, nausea, vomiting, worsening of anxiety and depression, weightloss and even being unable to eat. If I had not found this bacteria sooner I would most likely be in the hospital withering away or dead by now.
Along with this life threatening bacteria, I am financially struggling with how much it has taken me to get the help I need. I no longer have insurance and am over $10,000 dollars in debt of medical and school bills. However after a month of what I thought was good recovery, and taking a round of Flagyl antibiotics, I was hit full blown even worse with what is most likely the bacteria again. I no longer can afford to get help or see doctors. The mere blood work and stool samples aside from my endoscopy procedure cost me more than $4,000. I need testing done very badly, because now this bacteria is most likely something even worse. My intestinal tract could be shutting down on me or developing a worse condition and I am very terrified that if I dont get help and figure out why I am so ill that the long term future may not seem so great.
Any donations would go strictly toward helping pay my medical bills and helping me to figure out what entirely is wrong with me with more testing.This period of my life has put so much more on my shoulders than I've ever been able to balance. And any amount you could spare would truly save my life. I am only 19, I have so much to live for, and the thought that this could be what ends me is a terrifying thought.
