Alex's Final Bucket List
A little over five years ago I was a 20 year old normal, healthy college kid. It wasn't until May of 2011 that I was given the bad news that I had Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. Since the initial diagnosis I have been receiving continuous chemotherapy while going back to school and playing football. During this time period there have always been scares from different cancerous spots popping up and I either changed chemotherapies or recieved the same chemotherapy more often. I would also receive radiation therapy whenever the cancer would get out of control.
That brings us to May of 2016. I had a CT scan in my abdomen that seemed to show more cancer activity in the lymph nodes. I elected to stop the chemotherapy that I was on and take a month break. After that break, my oncologist was able to find an experimental drug that was intended to boost my immune system to fight my cancer.
Finally, in mid August this year, I was having difficulty breathing. The CT scan showed pnuemonia along with extensive cancer lesions in my lungs and liver. Now I am faced with a choice to either continue with another very difficult chemotherapy, that would undoubtedly make me sick and unable to function very much at all; or I could skip chemotherapy and try to live up the rest of this life that I still have to live.
This money that I am trying to raise will go towards my bucket list of experiences. As of now I am thinking of a trip to Yosemite National Park in California, skydyving, a trip to Wyoming to meet my priest from my childhood, and at all possible get my passport stamped for visiting another country.
Thank you for your donations, thoughts, and prayers. If you cannot donate please share this post on your facebook.
Although I have never told you, I wanted to thank you for inspiring me to become a Radiation Therapist. You truly have touched the hearts of many, even ones you have no idea you had. Your mom has told many heart felt stories about your journey, and your fight. I hope I too can one day learn to have such strength and courage like you have. Its been a blessing to have known you, you truly are an amazing role model, especially one too me. I hope you have safe travels, and all your dreams come true. Sending lots of prayers and love!
I'm so sorry that I cannot give more, but I hope that what I can give will help you with your journey. Although our paths never crossed, I went to the same church and school as you, and I hope you get to go to Wyoming and see that amazing priest that we all knew to be so kind. I hope you get to do and see everything that you are hoping for. God bless!
Alex, I hate that you have had to make a critical decision of this magnitude and although you have suffered much longer than I have, I surely think you are making the right one. You will always be in my prayers and hope you add a trip to Florida to stay with your BFF who was always by your side. Love, Gail
This is amazing!!!! Wow, I wish u the best and will be praying for you. My family started a go fund me page because my husband died a few days ago and we have 3 young kids and he had no life insurance. People are really blessing you. I hope u have fun and safe travels!
Alex, I am Keri Weber's Aunt. I have Head and Neck Cancer as well. Mine is not Nasopharyngeal, but started in the tongue and have been through many surgeries on my tongue, radiation with chemotherapy since 2011. I will most likely lose my tongue. Before you give up I must ask where you have been to get your treatment. 3 major hospitals to consider: University of Chicago, Sloan Kettering in NYC and MD Anderson in Houston TX. I am still fighting this battle because it continues to recur. You are so young, please don't give up the fight. There are trials for the new biological drugs. I hope you take this with sincerity from a fellow cancer fighter. There is so much to live for.
Alex and family, I remember the day this all started as if it was yesterday. I hope you know how many hurdles you surpassed and lives you have touched. I pray that God is with you and your family.
Hi Alex. I'm inspired by your strength and story. Have you ever tried THC or Vitamin B17 treatment? Neither of these will impair your immune system or cause you harm. These are natural! I wish you the best of everything!
This is absolutely amazing..Alex is gonna get to do..or go wherever he pleases!!! This makes my so happy!!!
Alex, I worked with your Grandma, and Mom. Nobody is promised tomorrow..live each of your days to the fullest, and have the time of your life doing it, and know you are loved by many !!!
