Dreaming of Graduation

Hello
I am Alison, and I am a musician. Music is a very expensive and time consuming career, and is very difficult.

In June 2015, I completed a degree in the study of classical music, playing violin. Earlier in the same year I was also accepted to study a masters' degree in performance of Scottish music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, something I had been dreaming of for many many years. As my passion is in traditional music, this was a dream come true.
That dream has since slowly turned to something not so exciting.
Although I am in love with what I have and what I am doing, the degree costs are crippling. Each year has a fee of £7,500, for which no help is given. I have still £1,500 to pay from last semester, meaning that I now need to pay £9,000, an amount, that with no help, is impossible to pay, and upon which I still have to factor in my own living costs as well as basic instrument care costs. Although I will have a term time job, and also gig and busk as much as I can, it will not be possible to achieve this amount of money unless I work full time, which I cannot do as a student. If most of the fees are not paid before the end of September, I may not be able to complete the course.

Why should you help me?
I hear you ask.

Like so many others here, I am one of many students attempting to get through life and complete the dream course.
However, once my degree is complete, I intend to do something about the fact that education has become so unreachable. I strongly believe that education is something that should be available to anyone that wants, or needs it, but at the rate the world is moving, we will soon be back at an age where education is something only the elite have the privilege of; something that should be kept in the past.
Although I cannot do this alone, I know I can certainly start to make a difference, by attempting to make music education available to everyone. Music is one of the most expensive professions to get a good start in, with the best teachers charging extortionate amounts for lessons. This is good for those who have worked hard to become a great teacher and have done the expensive education, but for those without the money to pay for good teachers, or even any teacher, music becomes unreachable.

I want to make music reachable.

The most talented musicians of our age could remain hidden simply because the resources were too expensive for the average person to afford.

My dream of doing this degree, has now evolved into not just doing my dream, but helping others reach theirs. "People should not dream their lives, but live their dreams".
I am living my dream, and with some help, I can finish my current dream, and hopefully help others to live theirs, not only bringing myself joy in seeing this, but others as well.

Hello everyone.
My fees are paid!!!
I cannot express how grateful I am for the amount that everyone has helped me for this. I can definitely say though that I would not have managed to get through this year without your help, and I will always be grateful to every one of you that has contributed and encouraged me to keep going and, now my fees have been paid! This year has been a bit of a push financially, but I have got there, and with just a few weeks before I graduate, I only have finishing touches left to do.
As a thank you, everyone is more than welcome to come along to my masters' recital on the 23rd May at 2pm in the CCA, Glasgow. More info about that can be found in the link below. I hope that many of you can make it to see the final result of a year that has only been made possible by you.
Thank you so much!
Alison

Hello everyone. Due to some disappointing news this morning it seems that this has had to come back. I had hoped that I wouldn't have to, I am well aware that this is not a "good cause" or a charity run. I am a normal person trying to do what I had always hoped to do with my life. I am a matter of months away from the finish line, but sadly still over £4000 away from getting there, with barely a penny left to my name. I have done all I can and more and I am still trying to make sure I can finish this. All I ask is that if you cannot help, that maybe you could share this. I am just one of many students who can't afford fees, anything that you can do to help is appreciated so much more than you could imagine.
Thank you.

Hello everyone. I know it has been a while, and so much has happened both good and bad. I will not dwell on the bad, but say instead that at the moment, my life is on the up. I have paid off my debt from last years fees and fully paid for this term, all thanks to your help. I am now in the process of applying for funding and waiting to hear how much assistance I can recieve. I have a job for the Christmas period, which along with my studies does make things a little difficult but is helping me toward paying instalment two of three, which I am hoping I will be able to pay for when my contract ends. All I have left now is to pay my final instalment before I graduate and I have managed to reach my goal! If anyone is still able to help me get towards this it would be greatly appreciated. And a huge thank you to everyone who has already helped me, I am almost there!

**UPDATE**
Yesterday morning I recieved an email saying my student card had been suspended as my fees from last year had not been fully paid. I have managed to pay some of the money but still have £800 left to pay on top of what this years fees are. This money needs to be paid by NEXT WEEK or I will be suspended from the course until I can pay. I'm sorry to have to ask again but if anyone is able to help in any way, even if it is just by sharing this to try to get the word out it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all so so much!
