Heidy's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
We are asking for help in supporting the recovery of our friend Heidy Dennery, who recently lost everything and became missing on the streets for a few weeks. Fortunatley she was found and has been treated in the hospital, but it is clear she has suffered, and we want to be able to get her the treatment she needs and make sure she has the means to take the next step forward.

Originally from Haiti, Heidy has been trying to create a better life for herself in South America for the past several years. I met her as a language teacher in Colombia, with a fun personality, and a quick ability to switch between Spanish, English, or French, depending on which group of friends she was talking to.

Despite her brightness, visa complications made it difficult for her to find job opportunities and she began to struggle. We never know the complications we will face in life. Unfortunately for Heidy, she found herself alone and slipping through the cracks. Thankfully she is not as alone as she felt. A social media campaign led by her ex-husband helped locate her and she is currently in the care of friends and loved ones. Her time on the streets and the circumstances that led her there had been very traumatic for her and she is currently struggling to cope.  She is now undergoing treatment to recover from this terrible episode in her life.

In order to continue to give Heidy the help she needs, we are asking for donations. The money will go toward her ongoing therapy, her current food and shelter while she is in Colombia, and a plane ticket if she feels returning to Haiti is the best option for her future.

We are so grateful for any contributions to Heidy's recovery and are really hoping these efforts can help to get her back on her feet. I first met Heidy as a colleague, and am utterly shocked and saddened at how easy it is to fall into  destitution.

Since my last communication with her, she expressed such gratitude and happiness that people were willing to reach out and help her. So please support us in saying, "Heidy, we care about you and will not let you fall!" Please support our campaign today!
