Help Hazel Finally Break Free

Donation protected
Last summer I met a dog at the pound, with huge sagging boobies, and the saddest face I'd ever seen. I spent three days with her, trying to feel her personality out, because we were considering adding her to the family knowing that our 13 year old pitbull, Kasey, was losing her battle to cancer.

We made the leap to adopt her. We named her Hazel, and she was Kaseys buddy until the end.

Hazels story was that she was bred and bred and bred some more- she was chained up outside, has only nubs for teeth now, from chewing on the chain she was tied to, was pregnant when I adopted her- with 9 MORE puppies- (which broke my heart that we couldnt save them)- had to have a K9 removed because it was broken all the way down to the root and preventing her from eating, and she is covered in scars.

When we brought Hazel home her instinct was to run. To bolt out of an open door, to cower down and escape. She had never heard an ice machine, seen a TV flicker. She would dump her food out of the bowl before she would eat.

Hazel has had the crapiest life, until us. I adore her, we all do.  She is my snuggle buddy, loves our three children, and has been the perfect addition. Kasey passed away at the beginning of February and Hazel mourned for her like crazy; it was heartbreaking.

We started cautiously looking for another pack mate for her, and adopted at the end of March. We named her Libby. Today Libby had an appointment, and I planned to have Hazel and Libbys microchips scanned to be sure all the information was correct, and go ahead and buy their heartworm preventative. The vet said she didnt have a heartworm test on file for Hazel, and I told her I wasnt worried about it, because I adopted her at the end of summer last year- and shes never really outside other than walks, or sunning on the deck while her human daddy grills.... so should be fine, right? No.

Our vet wanted to be positive, and I agreed. We got the news today that Hazel is heartworm positive, as well as positive for lyme. We are scrambling trying to figure out how in the world we will swallow this huge bill. I cannot bear to lose her.

I am a stay at home, homeschool mom to our three children, and my husband is a public school teacher. Every single dollar is spoken for, and we were not prepared for this diagnosis. This treatment cannot wait, the worms will only grow and do more damage.

My family, my children, cannot suffer another loss. We would be so grateful for even the smallest push forward to help with this bill and extensive treatment.

Please help Hazel finally break free from her past, to be healed mentally, and physically, so she can live out her poochy life, full of fun and love.
