Help Sweet Abigail Joy
Meet Abigail Joy. The precious 4 month old daughter of my dear friends Drew and Brittany White.
Last week started off normal, until it wasn't normal anymore.
Tuesday: We went to the pediatrician for Abigail's rapid breathing. Had a chest X-ray, showed possible pneumonia, got medicine that evening.
Wednesday morning; Went back the pediatrician, X-ray showed more concerning news, an enlarged heart. Then was directly admitted to Sierra Vista Hospital with the knowledge of a pediatric cardiologist from madera in town, thank you God! (His timing is perfect) When we got there the doc wanted to see her in the ER. ER doc heard a heart murmur then they did an Echo (ultrasound) on her heart and sent for the cardiologist. He came over with his own experienced ultrasound tech and did another Echo.
He diagnosed her with pulmonary atresia (broken valve and thin pulmonary artery connection to heart) and VSD (ventricular septum disorder = hole in the heart).
Couple hrs later a non emergency ambulance ride with mom to Valley Children's hospital in Madera. Dad and big sister arrived a few hours later with our necessities...
Friday: Abigail fasts for 10 hrs before her "heart cath" procedure, a mildly invasive contrast test to see what the arteries and viens are doing around her heart and lungs. RESULTS: her heart anatomy is a complex, one of a kind, intricate design of arteries and viens astonshingly keeping her stable and healthy up to this point, Thank you Lord. But will lead to many surgeries to correct.
Saturday - Monday; We wait for the surgerical team to meet Monday morning and discuss her situation and make a plan.
Meanwhile, we as a family, church family, God's family, we pray and believe for God's mercy and healing upon our sweet Abigail. Join with us on this journey of trusting God.
Update on Wednesday, Aug. 31:
As of right now, Abigail's first surgery will be this Thursday (9/1) at 7am. We will meet with the surgeon first thing tomorrow morning and have more details. There's alot to explain but I'll give you the gist... they will be connecting artery tissues to the pulmonary artery to form a connection to the heart and give her a valve, because she has neither. In the words of the surgeon, "this is not a simple surgery, no heart surgeries are simple, but hers is VERY not simple." This is a rare condition and hers is very complex.
Please pray for us all to get good rest and for Abigail to eat well and gain weight.
Continue to pray for healing.
How you can help:
Drew and Brittany will need financial help during this time to help cover travel expenses between San Luis and the hospital in Madera, medical expenses not covered by insurance, and loss of work due to the immediate nature of little Abigails condition. Please help in any way you can!
You can follow the story here on Abigails Facebook page.
The 3 primary prayer requests from the family are:
1. The aneurism recently discovered on her heart valve HOLDS.
2. Her lungs heal from recent complications
2. She gains weight and remains healthy at home
If all goes well, in 30 days Abigail will be headed back into a long and complex open heart surgery to replace the valve.
Please continue to pray, give and share their story. With these new complications, both mom and dad will be home completely focused on the care of Abigail - which makes working an impossibility. This precious family needs all the love, prayer and financial support this powerful village can offer.
This is an except from their recent post of Facebook giving more details....
"CT scan has confirmed an aneurysm on my pulmonary homograft. It is very serious and if it ruptures I will be seeing my Maker almost instantaneously. But we don't believe thats gonna happen do we?!? Nooooo!
But open heart surgery will happen in about a month. Replacing my valve and pulmonary homograft and possibly repairing/making larger some of my tiny vessels, which means another complicated and very long surgery.
Hard to swallow isnt it? Yea its been a bit of a shock.
My goals (AT HOME) for the next month -
stay healthy, gain a pound, walk on my own, go camping, maybe go on a horse with my mom, many days at the beach, going to church, and lots of time with my family
We will continue to pray, seek God, and believe for complete healing. We invite you to do the same for your own loved ones, strangers and for me and my family.
Fundraisers, meet and greets, and events will be taking place in the next month, so keep your eye out and calenders open!
The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Psalms 34:7-8 NKJV
Hello beloved. Christ the King is risen. He has conquered sin and death. He has set the captives free. He sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for you and me.
Thank you for your continued prayer and intercession for me. Much has happened in the past two days. Yesterday I had a stomach drain, a catheter and an internal heart sensor removed without any complication.
Today I had my three remaining chest drain tubes removed. I also had a small feeding line put in through my nose down to my tummy so I could start having mommy's milk again. Praise God that every day we are moving forward and seeing His guiding and merciful hand.
I do have more prayer requests and I know my warriors are up for the challenge. First I have to say that every moment of this journey is miraculous. As we celebrate victories, small and large, we need to remember to stay humble and boast only in the Lord. Let us not put our guard down or forget the path that brought us here. As much as me and my mommy and daddy and all of you want this to be over as fast as possible, we have to acknowledge that everything is in the Father's timing and all things can be turned for His glory. Let's lay down any fear and submitt any control we think we have over all circumstances and worship or creator. Praise Abba for every moment.
Right now I need the blood pressure in the right side of my heart to come down. This is so important for me to move forward. My heart has a new artery and valve it never had before and a whole cluster of small vessels from my heart to my lungs have been gathered together to make one vessel. My heart and lungs are not used to the way things are working right now. I need Papa God to speak to pressure and make it low and speak to vessels and make them flow.
We will endure. We will not lose hope. Pray for mommy and daddy and sister. They need you too. Love.
Here is the latest update on Abigail Joy:
Good morning. A new day full of His mercy. Yesterday was as long as it gets. Abigail left our arms for surgery prep at about 7:30 am and did not get to the picu until maybe 4:30 am this morning. We are exhausted and even more so this precious baby's body has endured an incredible amount of trauma. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
Jn 14:27 NASB
Thank God her spirit and her mind are held gently in the arms of our Father. We all prayed so hard yesterday and today is no different. Her body needs all the strength and support possible to repair and recover from this ordeal. Pray against inflammation, infection and complications. Pray for one another and the situations around you. Pray for all of us, this is just the beginning. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
Jn 14:13-14, 27 NASB
Here is a recent update from Brittany today around 4pm.
We just recieved our third update. The first update was after life support and anethstisia was established and was doing well. The second was to let us know she was still doing well and they were taking everything apart. The latest update was to confirm she is still doing well and that they are in the repair process. I know there are so many of you in prayer and fasting today for Abigail. My deepest gratitude. I hope we can all remember that our prayers are just as powerful and important for every situation of our lives. Talk to you soon. Love.
