The Broder's medical bills

Donation protected
Hi all, On Tuesday, August 23rd, after going to three different doctors, I took my husband to the emergency room for a high fever and flu like symptons. The doctors there were  finally able to diagnose that he was suffering from aa very rare reaction to an antibiotic he was taking. The reaction is called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and it was causing his skin and mucous membranes to burn from the inside out and shed.  The doctor said if we had waiting one more day, Rob would not have survived.   Unfortunalty, there is no way to stop the reaction and all the doctors could do is offer supportive services by keeping him on an IV, keeping the burns covered and monitoring for infection until the reaction finished doing it's damage.  They immediately transferred him to Kaiser Hospital intensive care for temporary care until a bed opened up at the UCSD burn center. The next day they put him in what I would call a 'light' medically induced coma and put him on a ventilator. They were very guarded about his prognosis.
On Friday, August 26th, they transferred him to the UCSD burn center where is he currently.  He is still in critical condition; however the doctor told me yesterday that they believe the syndrome has ran it's course and he should start to very slowly improve. They had 'mumified' him with bandages from head to toe but was able to remove the head bandages yesterday because the new skin is starting to grow back so that is incredibly good news.
Rob is still on a ventilator and in the 'coma' but the next step will be to ween him off of that and to start phyiscal therapy.  This has allowed me to actually step back and look at where we are going to be financially and unfortunately, it's not a pretty picture.  Neither one of us will be able to work for a while and the hospital copays are going to be crushing. We have applied for disability and family medical leave pay but that is only about 1/2 of our salaries and will take a while to kick in.
I'm sure the bills are going to be a lot more than the $2500 I listed, but my goal amount is to give us about a month breathing room so that we can continue to concentrate on Rob's rehabiliation.  Once we are both back to work, we can work on paying down the hospital copays and all the other expenses.
I am starting this page because I received so much outpouring of love from my facebook friends who were wondering how they can help and for those who can afford it, this is the help we need the most.  Any amount would be so gratefully appreciated IF you can afford it.
For anyone reading this who cannot afford to donate, PLEASE know that your kindness and moral support has been life-saving and please do not feel bad that you cannot help in this way. Thank you for reading this.
