We Salute the Legends of our Memories & Victories

The Memphis Area Branch of ASALH is seeking support to honor local Legends and Civil Rights Activists. Local long-time Civil Rights Activists will join other ASALH members on an historic adventure from Memphis to Richmond to attend the 101st ASALH Meeting and Conference and then on to Washington, D.C. to visit the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture and the White House where we can celebrate the eight years of successes of the leadership of our first Black President. The journey will be from October 5-9, 2016.

Let us give honor to those individuals that helped make the Museum and Presidency possible as we learn from their historic efforts and experiences. This trip is a tribute to those who gave of themselves to make life better for African Americans during the Civil Rights Movement and who have continued to sustain our efforts even through today with Black Lives Matter and other initiatives.

Today many of them are from the ages of 70 to over 80 years old. But they live as unsung heroes doing their works because they wanted all to benefit from the American dream.

As we transfer the torch from one generation of leaders and activists to another, what better way to fulfill the dreams of many of our legends of the civil rights movements and movements for the betterment of African Americans than to honor them in taking them on this significant journey. As we travel we will capture their reflections on video to learn from their experiences, challenges, sacrifices, costs and successes.

The Memphis Area ASALH fund-raising goal is $20,000. Please add your support to make this historic journey and record achievable.
