"Honouring Jonathan Crombie"

My name is Sandra McKinney. I live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and I am a huge fan of the Anne of Green Gables movies. On Saturday April 19, 2015 we were all shocked by the headlines in the news that Jonathan Crombie, an Anne of Green Gables actor, died at 48. Jonathan suffered a brain hemorrhage and died in New York City on Wednesday April 15, 2015. The following day after we learned about Jonathan’s passing I started a Facebook Group “Remembering Jonathan Crombie” to keep his memory alive in all of us. At the time I also wanted to look into whether or not Jonathan could be honoured in some way by the City of Toronto. So I wrote to the Mayor of Toronto and the person that responded to my email there suggested I contact a different office within the City of Toronto which was Parks, Forestry & Recreation - Commemorative Tree & Bench Program. I asked them if there was a way for the City to honour Jonathan - maybe a bench or a street named after him. They said they would contact the Parks Supervisor to see if a plaque could be installed on one of the existing benches in the David Crombie Park that is named after his father. The person who I dealt with told me after talking with the Parks supervisor that this could be done, however there was an application one fills out and unfortunately there was also a fee of CAD $1753.00.

I told the employee I spoke to that this would be a really nice way to honour Jonathan's memory and I thanked him for his assistance. He asked me if the Crombies knew I was trying to have this done for Jonathan and I said they didn't. So he said he would call Mr. Crombie. After that conversation he told me that Mr. Crombie was not against the idea and thought it was a great way to honour his son. What I am wondering is if anyone would like to contribute some money so that we can honour Jonathan with a plaque on a bench in the David Crombie Park in Toronto, Ontario Canada. This way when any of us visits Toronto we can go to the Park to see how Jonathan's memory is being honoured with the plaque on the bench and feel proud that this happened thanks to all of us.

I am creating this fundraising campaign and hoping this will be possible. Due to the fees involved we would have to set a higher amount so that there would be enough to pay for this to happen. If there is any money left over then I would donate it to one of the charities chosen by Jonathan's family.

If you like this idea and would be willing to help so that this can happen please donate whatever you can. Let's make this fundraising campaign a success and let’s keep Jonathan’s memory alive for our generation and generations to come.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Let’s make it happen!
