Here's "Lenny's" story ...

On Saturday, August 20th, Lenny called me (brother David) to let me know that his hands and feet were tingly and numb.  Four hours later Lenny called me from Richmond Heights Hospital (University Hospital) in Cleveland and I could not understand what he was saying.  By Sunday AM, Lenny was paralyzed from his neck down.  He was transferred to the University Hospital Case Medical Center where he was placed on an emergency life support breathing machine.  Over the next couple of days of testing, he was diagnosed with a fairly rare disease called Gullain-Barre Syndrome (GBS).  With GBS, your auto-immune system attacks your body's nerves that controls your muscles.  Today, tw weeks later, Lenny remains in the Neurology Intensive Care Unit still on a breathing machine.  The prognosois is that he may recover but it could take 3 months to several years.  Lenny has no income now and can't work due to his illness.  Please pray for Lenny for a complete and speedy recovery.  He has shown some signs of improvement over the past couple of weeks but it will be a long road ahead.  This fund was established to help Lenny pay his portion of the bills which will be over $20,000 and get back on his feet again!  Please prayerfully consider a donation of any amount to help.

Update 9

Hi Folks,

Unfortunately, Lenny had a setback yesterday and won't be going home Sunday as planned. Yesterday, he lost his balance and fell fracturing his hip! As you can imagine, he is very discouraged and disappointed. He is back in University Hospital and is currently scheduled to have surgery tomorrow or Friday to have pins put in place. The recovery period is expected to be 6-8 weeks. I wish I had better news to report! Please continue to keep Lenny in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks!
David

Hi friends and family! A lot has happened these past few weeks with Lenny. He is in Montefiore Rehab Hospital in Cleveland and is getting about 5 hours per day physical and occupational therapy. In just a few weeks he went from completely bed ridden to sitting in a chair and then walking with a walker. He called me today to tell me that he was walking with just the use of a cane! He may be discharged as soon as November 13th to go home! It's really amazing how quickly he has progressed. Thanks again for the prayers, support and well wishes these past few months.

Blessings to you all!

Greetings friends and family!
Lenny is doing great and getting better each day! The trach has been removed and he is breathing normally. He is now on a regular diet and is enjoying eating and drinking again! He has lost over 60 pounds and looks great. His range of motion is good in all extremities and he is beginning to take some steps. Lenny just got transferred to a rehab facility where he will receive extensive physical and occupational therapy. He will be sent home sometime in the next 30 days!

His medical bills are starting to arrive and he has zero income at this point. Please prayerfully consider a donation of any amount so he can meet his immediate financial needs until he returns to work. Any size donation would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all for your support especially your thoughts and prayers!

Blessings to you all!
David

Hi Everyone! Great news! Lenny came off the vent yesterday! He's only using it at night when he is sleeping. This last Wednesday he got up and stood at the side of his bed for the first time! He also has the Passey-Nuir device connected to his trach full time now . It's nice being able to talk to him again! He still can't eat or drink anything but I suspect that will change this coming week.

Thanks everyone for your visits, cards and encouraging comments, financial support and prayers! They mean so much to Lenny.

To all my Jewish friends and family ... Happy New Year (La Shana Tovah)!

Blessings to you all!
David
