Leonard Thompson Medical Fundraiser
On Saturday, August 20th, Lenny called me (brother David) to let me know that his hands and feet were tingly and numb. Four hours later Lenny called me from Richmond Heights Hospital (University Hospital) in Cleveland and I could not understand what he was saying. By Sunday AM, Lenny was paralyzed from his neck down. He was transferred to the University Hospital Case Medical Center where he was placed on an emergency life support breathing machine. Over the next couple of days of testing, he was diagnosed with a fairly rare disease called Gullain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). With GBS, your auto-immune system attacks your body's nerves that controls your muscles. Today, tw weeks later, Lenny remains in the Neurology Intensive Care Unit still on a breathing machine. The prognosois is that he may recover but it could take 3 months to several years. Lenny has no income now and can't work due to his illness. Please pray for Lenny for a complete and speedy recovery. He has shown some signs of improvement over the past couple of weeks but it will be a long road ahead. This fund was established to help Lenny pay his portion of the bills which will be over $20,000 and get back on his feet again! Please prayerfully consider a donation of any amount to help.
Unfortunately, Lenny had a setback yesterday and won't be going home Sunday as planned. Yesterday, he lost his balance and fell fracturing his hip! As you can imagine, he is very discouraged and disappointed. He is back in University Hospital and is currently scheduled to have surgery tomorrow or Friday to have pins put in place. The recovery period is expected to be 6-8 weeks. I wish I had better news to report! Please continue to keep Lenny in your thoughts and prayers.
Thanks!
David
