Team Chum R2AK 2017

Donation protected
James and Carrie are going to Race to Alaska on a 17' sailboat in the summer of 2017. Stage one is from Port Townsend to Victoria (40 miles) and is referred to as the 'Proving Grounds.'  Stage two, 'To the Bitter End' is a wee bit harder, Victoria to Ketchikan (710 miles).
We fully expect that Carrie will be the youngest competitor (16) and James and Carrie should be the only father/daughter team.

James grew up blue water sailing and building sailboats with his dad. He has sailed to Hawaii, down to the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal. Carrie was two when we starting boating as a family and we bought our first sailboat when she was four. We've had some amazing adventures exploring the Gulf Islands and the southern coast of Vancouver Island.

In the words of the organizers, "R2AK is the first race of its kind and North America's longest human and wind powered race. It's like the Iditarod, on a boat, with a chance of drowning, being run down by a freighter, or eaten by a grizzly bear. There are squalls, killer whales, tidal currents that run upwards of 20 miles an hour, and some of the most beautiful scenery on God's green earth."

On September 9th there will be more information coming out about the 2017 race, and we will provide more specifics at that time.

We are hoping for some sponsorship and in exchange we are happy to plaster your logo all over the boat. At the same time, we are hoping our family and friends would consider donating to the cause. James is a boat builder by trade and he was given a boat which he has been modifying. Unfortunately there are costs attached to such an adventure  - registration fees, safety equipment, supplies and gear. We expect that we will need about $5000 to make this happen. If you can help us make this dream become a reality, we would be extremely grateful!

The boat is coming along.

There are a lot of GoFundMe pages out there with heart breaking stories. This page involves a dream - a dad and his teenage daughter going on an adventure that most of us would be afraid to try. Thank you for taking the time to read this and we are grateful for any support you can provide.
