Fraternal Greenwood Foley Cemetery

Donation protected
Hello, I am the President of the Fraternal Greenwood Foley Cemetery Preservation Society. We formed this Society to try to help preserve these 3 old adjoining cemeteries dating back to the late 1800's in Pratt City, Birmingham, Alabama. When our group first took over the maintenance of these cemeteries, no one could even get through the front gated entrance to their families graves. The Greenwood Cemetery had not been accessible since the late 1970's or early 1980"s. There have been at least 3 tornadoes that came through them, destroying many old upright markers, and also destroyed St. Catherine's Catholic Church across the street. We also were finally able to uncover the remains of this late 1800's former mauseloeum, which we now refer to as "The Gazebo". We met a masonary arts person there about a year ago, and he said it would take at least $50,000 or more to restore it. He was totally amazed at the structure, but it does have foundation problems, so we are encouraging people not to try to enter it,  The masonary man said it appeared to have been built late 1800's or early 1900's, and appeared to have been done by Italian brick masons, who immigrated to this country. There are many countries represented in the burials in these cemeteries. We also need funds to maintain and complete the restoration of the cemeteries. We will be grateful for any amount that can be given to do this. All of the funds will go towards this restoration. I have a personal interest in this as I have many ancestors buried here. We need funds immediately.
