Baudouin Family Flood Assistance
My name is Jennifer Baudouin. My husband Andrew and I live in Baton Rouge, LA with our three children. We went out of town for last week to visit relatives and on the day we were supposed to come home we found out that our city was facing a massive unprecidented flood.
The same day we had friends nearby that went to check on our house only to find that back yard completely flooded and the water rising quickly. They had to leave quickly to avoid being stranded. Many of the residents in our area were not so lucky and needed to be rescued by boats.
Today we were able to return for the first time and found our home in a state of ruin. All the flooring will need to be pulled up, drywall up to the ceiling will need to be replaced, the toilets backed up, most if not all of our furniture is gone, toys and stuffed animals etc., not to mention the putrid smell of it all. As you can see in the pictures below, the floors and surfaces are all covered in a thick slimy residue. This is most likely a mixture of river silt and raw sewage. All cleanup must be done quickly to avoid mold growth. We have seen a massive outpouring of love from our friends and neighbors in regard to the clean-up effort and support. So many in our city are suffering and everyone who can is doing their part to help.
One blessing in all of this is that we were one of the small 17% of homeowners in Baton Rouge who had flood insurance. Unfortunatly, it will most likely only pay for the home repairs and not the content, due to the extent of the damage. We are in need of new beds, clothes, shoes, school books, curtains, blinds, rugs, furniture, bedding, kitchen appliances, small appliances, washer, dryer etc., Additionally we also lost countless photos, heirlooms and other irreplaceable items.
My head and heart are aching just thinking about all that was lost and all the time and effort it will take to get our lives back to some semblance of normal. Any money you donate will be greatly appreciated and will be a wonderful blessing to our family. We will use all donated funds directly to replace essential items that were lost.
