Jonathan Pitre's Miracle Fund

Jonathan Pitre, Ottawa's Butterfly Boy, suffers from a condition called Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa. It is a very rare, extremely severe and painful skin condition which causes blisters all over his body, that are equivalent to third degree burns. Jonathan recently celebrated his 16th birthday, but has faced daily challenges that most fully grown adults would be unable to imagine.
But hopefully, that soon will change. Jonathan is travelling to the United States to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital to receive a treatment that could give him a real chance at a more normal life. The treatment will involve receiving stem cells from bone marrow donated by his mother. If successful, not only will Jonathan's life expectancy improve, but he will see drastic improvements in his quality of life.
Unfortunately though, this potentially life-saving, life-changing treatment will come at a huge cost to his family. The Ministry of Health will cover many of Jonathan's medical expenses. However, the Pitre family will still be facing bills of over $20,000 per month in order to cover their remaining medical and living expenses. Jonathan's treatments could take as long as a year, resulting in a massive financial undertaking for the family. This doesn't even mention the hundreds of thousands of dollars of expenses that the Pitre family has already taken on in order to take care of Jonathan.
Jonathan's mother TIna, who will be donating blood, bone marrow, and skin grafts with the hope of saving her son, has more important things to worry about right now than finances. She needs to focus her energy on helping her son get better. She does not have the time to worry about the extensive bills that will be piling up through the course of her son's treatment.

We want to see Jonathan come back home and enjoy his life the way that every one of us has the privilege to do every day.
