Support for Marnie
If you know Marnie, you know she is the most loving, caring and giving person who is always there for everyone. It is my hope to raise enough to cover her impending medical costs. Marnie is a full-time working mother and will be in the hospital with her husband at her side for some time. Their three small children are staying with our wonderful mother while they await test results. Whatever you can give would be so appreciated. Blessings to all and thank you in advance.
The lesions in her lungs have been blocking her airways so she was not getting enough oxygen. At first they thought she may have had clots, but thankfully a CT scan showed that wasn't the case, THANK GOD. For now she is still in the hospital on oxygen. She's okay when she's lying down, but the moment she stands she can't breathe. It is heartbreaking.
I was able to speak with her this morning however, and although she was coughing quite a bit, she was in good spirits as always. They are trying desperately to find a clinical trial to be accepted into, so please keep the suggestions coming. It is not as easy as one might think as a patient has to qualify since all forms of colon cancer are different.
Thank you all for your generous support and for your loving words of encouragement. My whole family had a bit of a mental breakdown yesterday, but the support from literally thousands of people, as well as our extreme faith in the Lord has helped us through yet another challenging day.
For now, please continue your prayers, please donate if you are able, and above all, please thank God for the way he has been at work in so many people's lives thanks to our sweet Marnie and her undying faith in Him.
Blessings to you all,
Oh my gosh. I know it’s been a while since I’ve given everyone a Marnie update. I apologize. The reason is because it’s so much easier to update with good news than with no news or bad news.
I just had a very hard conversation with Marnie. The doctors have put her on a new form of chemo that she takes in the form of the pill. She started this yesterday hoping to God that it wouldn’t be as bad as the chemo she was previously on, it turns out it is just as bad if not worse.
Medically speaking they have pretty much come to the end of their rope with treatments so now we are trying to put all our trust in clinical trials. But dear Marnie and her family are so stressed out. It is hard enough to function to get through the day without having the stress trying to find a way to save your life.
What I’m asking for today is support in all forms. Pray and don’t stop praying for Marnie‘s mental and physical well-being as well as her family’s. If you live nearby, please offer your help (don’t let her tell you no). You have all been so incredibly gracious financially, but if you can spare anything else to help with the medical bills and their life expenses please consider donating where you can. Even five dollars helps (and she might kill me for even mentioning that).
Being so far away, I feel so helpless, so I feel this is at least one thing I can do, to help spread the word and to keep you all informed about our sweet Marnie, who we all know and who we all love tremendously.
She will most likely be sick for her son’s birthdays on the 23rd and 26th, and for Halloween, and for those of you who have been around the mountains during Halloween you know that Marnie and her family are known for throwing a super awesome Halloween party every year. So this is obviously hard on them especially during this time of year.
For now they are researching, or at least trying to research when she feels up to it, clinical trials all around the country, which means that yes, there is a very real possibility that they may have to uproot their lives in Lake arrowhead. If you know anything about clinical trials please reach out to me.
In the meantime, thank you so much for your prayers and every type of support you have given Marnie, her family and our extended family. We truly need a miracle.
From the bottom of my heart I am thinking you. With love and many blessings,
First, I’d like to let you know that Marnie and Bryan were able to take an amazing long weekend trip to Idaho to see some beautiful sights and head their favorite band play! I’m so happy they were able to just...be. The photos she sent us were amazing.
However, the news she sent today is as follows:
“Well things are not going too well here today. My CEA is up over 100, and my dr wants to possibly change things up. First step is a scan, then he will do another biopsy that will give him a better idea of gene mutations and all that. I may be going into some clinical trials and or immunotherapy. So crap. Kind of over this whole stupid cancer thing right now.”
We are all over it. I was able to chat with Marn a second ago. Lots of tear but lots of love.
Today I’m asking for nothing but prayer and positivity for all of us. Everything has been just... overwhelming. We all love that girl soooooo much. Pray for her, to keep her strength and fighting spirit. Pray for her sweet children. Pray for her husband. Pray for my parents and my sister and brother and me. It’s gets hard to stay positive and keep the faith, even though we know that’s what we all need to do at this time.
Let’s keep praying, above all, FOR A MIRACLE. Marnie is a light in this world to so many people.
With love and faith, MB.
A dear friend of mine from Lake Arrowhead is lovingly donating a 3 Night Stay at Granny Gert's Cabin in Lake Arrowhead, CA in hopes of raising money for Marnie and her family. Marnie, as you know, is still fighting like a rockstar as she battles Stage 4 Colon Cancer.
So here's how it will work... With a donation of ANY amount ($5.00 - $1000000.00) along with a short description of why you and/or your family deserve a get-a-way, you will be entered into the contest. I will personally review all entries and the person/family who I feel gave the best argument of why a get-a-way will be perfect for them will win the 3 Night Stay at Granny Gert's! Mind you, rooms here go from $400+ a night and the home sleeps up to 20! Please send all entries to firstname.lastname@example.org with the words MIRACLE FOR MARNIE as the subject. Also please include the amount you donated her GoFundMe campaing (the $amount will have no bearing on whom is chosen, only the reason why you feel you deserve a mountain get-a-way), your name and e-mail. I'm looking forward to reading each entry! This contest will run until Aug. 15th , 2018 and the winner will be notified by e-mail no later than Aug. 17th, 2018. The voucher is good until Oct. 1st, 2018.
Now for the important information. Marnie is doing well, considering. She was recently put on a new type of chemo which will cause her to undoubtedly lose her hair. I was able to visit with her a couple of weeks ago and saw just how horrible this new chemo is making her feel, but as always, she is still a light in a dark place. She has so much faith, and while her physical state is much more meek these days, she's still such a beautiful example of what it is to be a faithful fighter. Her kids are doing well, but they know that "mommy is sick." It is heartbreaking, but they have a loving support system by their sides at all times. Her husband Bryan continues to prove to be a stellar partner in life, accompanying her to nearly all chemo treatments and waits on her hand and foot. He's a gem of a human being. She's sick often these days and has more bad days than good, but she is living her life to the fullest when she is able.
You have all been such a source of hope and peace and support for my dear big sister and we appreciate all you have done, whether it be sending a little bit of funding to help Marnie and her family through this time, bringing meals, helping with the kids, or just making Marnie laugh. We are hoping that this awesome gesture by the sweet Melissa May and Granny Gert will help them bear the financial burdens that have come along with this garbage dump of a disease.
So get to your computers and get writing! Let's help bring a little light to the Banks family, and earn a free vacation while you are at it!

Mary Beth, Your beautifully written update has me in tears. I don't even know Marnie that well but I do know her from having lived in Lake Arrowhead and dined at Belgian Waffle, know your parents from living in Hamiltair & am Liz Wilcut Connolly's mother-in-law. I pray for Marnie daily and will continue to do so as I know what an amazing young woman she is.
Marnie the Howe family's thoughts are with you in your fight, stay strong!
Mary Beth, My name is Deanna and I work with Shellie Morton McDonald and have been following a long throughout Marnies journey as Marnie and my mother were diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer at around the same time. Chemo has not been able to keep up with my mothers growth, and like Marnie it has grown into her Lungs. Its like they are on the same trajectory. My mothers oncologist removed her from Chemo about 4 months ago and got her into a KEYTRUDA immunotherapy clinical trial as my mom tested positvie for some gene and the cancer is Colon and spread to her lung. Since removing her from Chemo, my mother has made a pretty miraculous recovery, as Im sure you well know how sick it can make you. Right now we dont know if the Keytruda immunotherapy is working as she is getting her PET scan scheduled today to see the progress. Anyway, I thought I would be remiss if I didnt mention it. I was able to meet Marnie when she came up for a visit to our pool in the summer and was touched by her spirit. I wish you all, all the best. Its important for us that have loved ones with this atrocious disease to remember we are not alone.
Marnie, you and your family are in our prayers. xoxo Marc and Stacey
Continuing to pray with you for your miracle.
