Freeman Family Flood Recovery Fund

My sister, Adina, her husband, Tim, their oldest son Talon, and their two adopted, special-needs boys, Morgan and Brody, live in Denham Springs, Louisiana. The flooding there is beyond devastating. The sheriff’s department said, they are not rescuing individuals, but entire communities. That is what happened to my sister and her family. When they were finally rescued by boat, there was over five feet of water already in their home. My sister said that the refrigerator had tipped over, the washer and dryer were tipped over, and her desk was floating. They could take nothing. Nothing! They could take NOTHING!! They have nothing. They literally have the clothes on their backs. They don’t even have a toothbrush. Their cars are gone. Everything they own is gone. They have nothing left. The boys need consistency and routine and all that is gone. Their sense of security has vanished. They don’t know where they will even live. I can’t imagine how scared they are right now. They have already been evacuated from one shelter because of the continued flooding and are heading to someplace else. So many things lost that can never be replaced-family heirlooms, pictures the kids painted, photographs-all are gone. My apologies for being so jumbled in my writings, but this is very emotional, very personal. Morgan and Brody are my biggest concern. Being special-needs, they don’t process information in the “normal” way. Routine, consistency, a sense of security are so important for their emotional well-being, which is fragile on a good day. Adina just shared that she had heard homes in her neighborhood had water up to the rooftops -and it’s still not over. Asking for money is hard to do, but here I am, asking my friends, family, and their friends and family to help out Adina, Tim, Talon, Morgan and Brody, in any way you can. There are the immediate needs and there are the longer-term needs. We know that their renter’s insurance won’t cover anything lost in the flood.  Anything will help them recover and begin to “normalize” their life again. Thank you. -Kristal Freeman
