Help Researcher Buy an EEG

£1,520 of £10,000 goal

I am a self-funded doctoral researcher at Westminster University who is also training as a Neurofeedback practitioner. I need to raise funds to purchase a proper, research-grade EEG suitable for use in my practitioner's training and my PhD research.

The equipment I need to purchase is the actual EEG recording machine itself, a selection of caps in different sizes, plus spare leads and accessories. Here is a photograph of the system: http://www.mitsar-medical.com/eeg-system/

I am a mature student who has had to fight tooth and nail to make it to higher education in the first place. I am very pleased to be able to announce that I graduated with a first class BSc in Cognitive Neuroscience, winning the Department Prize for overall achievement. Here is a magazine article I had published about my final year research project: https://thethousand.com/docs/2_Gwyneth_Rolph_Using_EEG_to_Predict_IQ.pdf

My doctoral research is a self-proposed research project that follows on from and expands the research I performed last year at undergraduate level. However, because it is my own self-proposed research, that means I am not funded. I am proceeding on that basis not because I believe I am going to make a fortune, but because I personally believe it is important in my field of science. I have done what I can so far to work and study hard, and learn my craft. Now, who is going to get behind my research so it can benefit a wider audience?

Clearly, having the right professional equipment will be huge step forward. Please consider donating to this project any amount that you are able to.

Now that I am going to be starting my postgraduate research, having my own equipment is going to be even more crucial than ever. Using borrowed equipment worked for an undergraduate (at least, up to a point), but now it is time to professionalise! You can assist me with my neuroscience research by helping raise funds for this vital piece of equipment.

The final year research project is now upon us! I will need to start making EEG recordings imminently. As an emergency measure, I have arranged to borrow equipment belonging to a friend who uses the same EEG system as what I have trained on (shown in the picture). However, this is only a very temporary solution and going forward I will need to have my own equipment! Please consider making a donation, even if it's a fiver, and share, share, share!

Here is a paper (uploaded to academia.edu) I wrote for a piece of coursework on mindfulness. I had no choice about the subject matter (mindfulness), and the stress questionnaire was a team effort with my classmates, but the use of the emWave to measure HRV coherence was my own input. Just imagine what I could be doing if I had access to professional laboratory equipment, rather than a £160 gadget. Any donation, however small, would be a constructive step to making this a reality.

Hi, it's been a while since I posted an update, but this campaign is still very much alive and the equipment is still greatly needed. I am interested in pursuing a research project in the area of EEG correlates of psychometric intelligence, which although excites members of the public with whom I have spoken, as a research topic it seems to have received comparatively little interest. Help me buck the trend!
