Tapestry of Hope

Donation protected
Tapestry of Hope is a 501c3 nonprofit organization to help underserved teens get into and through college - through mentoring and networking. Renee Dormois Sullins cofounded TOH with Gayland Johnson in 2007 in Houston, Texas.
All donations are tax-deductible.

DID YOU KNOW TEXTBOOKS ARE NOT COVERED BY SCHOLARSHIPS/FINANCIAL AID ?

There are costs associated with attending college that are not covered  by financial aid -  primarily textbooks (which can range from $350-$700 per semester). Our students, all low income, may need a laptop computer and printer as well.
We are setting up scholarship funds for these items on an annual basis to help our graduating seniors with expenses to purchase such items.

All donations made after July 2017 will be used to help support our college freshmen and our students entering college in 2018.

Thank you for your donation and helping us make a difference in the lives of others.

Sincerely,
Renee Dormois Sullins, Executive Director/cofounder

Here's what our students have to say about Tapestry of Hope:

Melissa, Graduate - Southwestern University Georgetown
“The under-representation of underserved students in (high school) college preparatory initiatives leads to limited opportunities for higher education and advanced degrees. According to the statistics, the probability of graduating high school, let alone going to college, was not very likely in my case. Both Renee Dormois-Sullins and Tapestry of Hope helped me get into and through college. This organization has had a great impact on my educational attainment through quality mentoring experiences and exceptional leadership programs.”

Angie, Graduate - Texas A&M University; current M.Ed. candidate and First Grade Bilingual Teacher:
“Tapestry of Hope helps those in need to complete a journey. A journey that is unreachable sometimes. Nevertheless, with all the odds against us , we are able to fulfill our dreams. Your donations help students, like myself, and lighten our financial burdens so we can attend college; whether it’s a community college or a 4-year university. Likewise, (through TOH) I have been inspired to help others, the young children. I hope to one-day help my students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.”

Teresita, Graduate - University of Houston Downtown:
“…was always available to help in any way possible, even if it was last minute, related to different questions or just general questions, (Tapestry of Hope) was always willing to help whether by phone, email or in person. That is something that was very helpful to me, to be able to talk to someone about this process. I was a member of the etiquette classes sponsored by TOH; besides being fun, they were very helpful and practical. Not only did it give us information on how to “behave” but it also provided us with many helpful tips that would be needed in everyday life. As a first generation college student, it was very helpful to have someone who had gone through the same process to be there and help me in the process, not only was the task less intimidating but it was also do-able. Tapestry of Hope has changed my life in a positive wonderful way. Not only in helping me pursue my dreams, and encouraging me to do so, but also opening the doors to people and opportunities.”
