Conors Broken Heart

Donation protected
John and I were very excited to be expecting a baby boy together who is due on the 6th December 2016. We have decided to name him Conor Terrence Patrick Shortt. Tragically after our first morphology scan they were unable to see all of Conor's heart functions. We were booked in for numerous scan's to just check as they explained it could also be a positioning thing. On Tuesday 2nd August we had a specialist scan appointment, after an hour of trying they asked us to come into the office for a chat with the doctor. She explained that all normal hearts have a left and right side with 2 chambers on each. She was unable to see the left side of his heart and believed it was underdeveloped. She asked us to go to the Women's and Children's Hospital on the 3rd August to have appointments with a fetal cardiologist who specialises in baby's hearts. We finished that scan and he sat us down and explained our baby had a very complex case of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) the worst and most dangerous for congenital heart disease . This meant that our baby would need some life saving heart surgeries and the only place in the country they do them is in the Royal Melbourne Children's Hospital. We will need to move to Melbourne at approximately 36 weeks gestation and Conor will be induced early around 38 weeks. As soon as Conor is born he will need medication to keep parts of his heart open and operating. Within a few days old Conor will need his first Life saving heart surgery. After that surgery he will another one at 4-5 months old. We will need to remain in Melbourne the whole time and at best case scenario we will be in Melbourne for approximately 6 months before we are able to return home and Conor will be able to receive medical care in Adelaide. Conor will then need his third (hopefully final) heart Surgery again at 5. Later in life he may need a heart transplant depending on his heart and how surgeries go. Luckily our baby will be a normalish functioning child intellectually after all of his surgeries and his quality of life should be good.John will need to fly back and forward to Melbourne to be with both his kids who will be in different states. This will be a significant cost as well as having all of our baby needs, medical expenses, day to day living and all the nasty surprises along the way. As we will have the cost of having two houses in different cities there is double the amount of financial strain and more stress than two parents going through this can handle...We are asking if you possibly can either donate some money to us in our time of need or share our story in hope some people are able to donate. Thank you very much
