Food for Stray Dogs of Nepal

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
In Kathmandu Valley. over 22000 stray dogs wander the streets, many of them are at this moment suffering and dying on the strrets. We are trying to help the stray dogs"s situation by carrying out these dog-feeding programs for a year now. In some countries, eg: Nepal, dogs are treated as a toy. People throw stones at them and also casually kick them, as they pass by. These are all due to lack of awareness. Thus, we were inspired to carry out these programs not just to feed the stray dogs but also to make people aware about this issue. We wanted people to get inspired by our action, take some action about this issue and wanted them to stop abusing these creatures.
Every day hundreds of dogs remain hungry and are abused in Kathmandu valley. This fact always bothered me and I used to take some measures in a small scale – like feeding them, taking care of the ones around encouraging others to do so. However, a year ago, I decided to take it to a larger scale. Also, since I was born and brought up in Nepal, But now live in the USA with my wife and two sons. I wanted to give back to the country and society in any way I can.

In this one-year span of our program, we have already fed more than a thousand dogs and we’re still counting. We have already conducted dog-feeding campaigns in the world heritage sites like Pashupatinath Temple area and Baudhanath Stupa area. Pashupatinath temple is considered the most famous Hindu temple in Nepal. Baudhanath Stupa on the other hand is one of the most important religious sites for the Buddhists. Small team of kindhearted locals conducts dog-feeding programs on a regular basis. They also involve the local people while conducting these programs in order to spread some awareness among them.
Goals in helping the street dogs!
We believe awareness is what the people are lacking right now. People have the mentality that these stray dogs should be killed instead of taken care of and fed. Thus, firstly, we will try and spread awareness among people and will try to change their mentality. We will also try to involve more and more people in our programs, so they will be inspired to help these creatures in some way. This, I believe, will automatically pave our path to achieving our goal. Apart from that, our plan is to extend the services we provide. Due to lack of fund and shelter, we haven’t been able to provide proper health care to the stray dogs. Thus, we want to extend our program and provide health services too.

Hopes for the dogs of Kathmandu in the future !
Right now due to the recent devastating earthquake, a lot of dogs lost their lives and many lost their shelter and were forced to become stray dogs. However, with our feeding program, this issue will improve for short term and with the awareness we have been spreading by involving locals, hopefully, this issue will be solved for the long term. We also plan to conduct awareness sessions for children by going to different schools and explaining to them, so that they will not have to face, what we are facing now, in the future.

Help us to realize our dream of creating a tangible difference! Your contribution will help thousands of street dogs in Nepal. Funds will be used for educational materials and volunteer support as well as camp supplies like medicines, veterinary care, and dog food.
