Tower Garden in the Classroom
Do you remember when you were in elementary school and planted a seed to watch it grow? We want to take that experience to a whole new level! Through standards with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S.T.E.M) education, our program will provide students a unique experience and tangible insight into cutting edge Aeroponic technologies. What is Aeroponics? It's the growth of plants without soil! Imagine the possibilites!
At Discovery Elementary, two 5th grade classes plan to take a very green and scientific step forward - with the construction of the "Tower Garden Experience". Tower Garden® by Juice Plus+® is a state-of-the-art vertical aeroponic growing system. Tower Garden® represents the next generation of urban farming. This highly efficient aeroponic growing system allows you to grow massive amounts of produce in a tiny amount of space — in about half the time of traditional soil-based agriculture, using just a fraction of the water and space!
We are requesting funding to provide each class with an Indoor Tower Garden Growing System. This package includes everything needed to start growing: tower garden, mineral blend, pH test kit, seedlings, support cage, grow lights, rockwool cubes, net pots, extension kit and dolly.
Over 50 students will benefit from this experience and be able to eat the healthy food they harvest! Not only will current students be able to take advantage of this incredible learning experience, but future classes will gain a "scientific green thumb" as well!
Successful funding for this project would determine the existence of the program, which would grant lasting learning possibilites for our students. Their curiousity, engagement and motivation to learn, while incorporating core subjects with new technology, will provide our students an experience of immense impact.
