We have exactly until August 15 2016 to raise the money to fund this external visual transformation!
Over the past 365 days, the Edward T. Steel Public School family has worked extremely hard to create a culture where 100% of our family members are able to identify an action, which shows they are cared for and/or cared about as an individual. We encourage our 587 prekindergarten to 8th grade students, 63 staff members, and our thousands of parents/community members to look at our building as their second home, but it does not have a welcoming/inviting presentation from the outside.
We have been working hard on the inside. Here’s a quick overview of some of our accomplishments from the past school year: 7 murals installed (Villanova University), 2 adjustable regulation basketball courts donated (Temple University), painted 4 identifiable play spaces (basketball, football, walking track, and life-sized checker board) in the school yard, over 100 refurbished desktops for individualized instruction (Philadelphia Children’s Foundation), and a new music lab that includes 35 keyboard pianos (Lang Lang International Music Foundation). There’s a lot more to highlight, but I want to focus on our goal for the next 15 days.
With your financial assistance we will transform the front of our school into a visually appealing space. Our building is accented with a flat, basic brown coat of paint that covers the bottom 8 feet of the wall. It has been this color since 1970. It’s time for a change! We are looking to blanket the front of our home from end-to-end in motivational words and quotes that speak to the dreams and aspirations of every one of our family members. These words and quotes will be painted in positive red and jay blue on an ice cube white foundation.
Here’s where your assistance is needed to turn this dream into a reality! We need to raise a minimum of $2,000.00 for this project. This will cover the artist’s costs, including labor and materials. With each donation you will also receive the opportunity to select a word or short phrase that you believe speaks to the current and/or future success and motivation of our family members. Your word or short phrase will be placed in the mural as a thank you gesture from us.
Donation Guidelines:
• $0.01 – $50.00: small
• $50.01 - $100.00: medium
• $100.01 - $250.00: large
• $250.01 and up: extra large
Benefits for our kids from your donation:
• Beautifying a sterile space that will be seen by over 5,000 community members per year.
• Creating an accent wall that highlights the grit, determination, and progress towards our transformation.
• But most of all showing our students that they are not alone on their journey towards their individual dreams and aspirations, as well as, showing them that they are worth it!
