Nepenthe Needs Your Help

$15,800 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 228 people in 29 months
Nepenthe Homebrew has flooded again. On July 30, a sudden and massive flash flood swept through the Meadow Mill complex, wiping out the shop we call home. The damage is extensive.

When we flooded in 2014, we were overcome by the level of support that we received from our community. You all came together to quite literally drag us out of the mud, and through your help and donations we were able to reopen after only six and a half weeks. We have not forgotten your generosity and continue to be humbled by the kindness and support you showed us.

We know that asking you all to come together and help us again is asking a lot, but we need the help now more than ever. This flood hits us at the end of our slow season, which puts considerable strain on our small business. The damage is worse this time around, and to make things worse, flood damage isn't covered under standard business insurance. We do carry a flood policy, but the coverage is very limited.

We know that some of you are thinking "why is your store still in a place that floods?" Unfortunately, it is extraordinarily difficult to get out of a commercial lease, and ours is no exception. It contains provisions specifically intended to keep us from leaving in the event that we suffer flood damage. We are currently weighing our options, but for now our hands are tied.

With your help, we will re-open as quickly as we can. We have not and will not ever give up.  We appreciate everyone who has reached out to offer support and love!

Cheers,

Brian, Jill, Ciaran, & Benny (the pooch)

PS. We understand that donating is tough, just sharing this on social media and sending good vibes is appreciated more than you know. We have had many people reach out asking if we need help cleaning up - our heads are still swimming, but follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to find out when we need extra hands. Thank you again!

A huge update - we are officially re-opening this Friday, September 2! We cannot thank everyone who donated enough, we absolutely could not be reopening without your support.

It will take us a few months to get back to our full inventory, but we will have all the basics when we reopen and then some! We're super excited to reopen and see you all again soon!

Cheers,

Jill, Brian, Ciaran, & Benny (woof)

Another huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our GoFundMe - we have met our goal! With these funds we've been able to get started on rebuilding our shop. We have the ambitious goal of reopening in time for Labor Day weekend, so we are working constantly to make that happen. Repairs are (mostly) finished on our doors and walls, and our shelves are nearly assembled - we're really close to being able to order the things we need to stock them! We'll update again as we get closer, but as of right now we're excited to see you all again in just a few weeks!

We are so close to reaching our goal, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT! We're just constantly blown away by your kind words and love.

So many local businesses have generously reached out to us about how they can help get us back on our feet. We're so grateful! Let's show these folks how appreciative we are by supporting them as well:

Westminster House of Brews: Show that you donated $25 to our Gofundme (link below) and get 10% off your purchase; donate $50 and get 20% off! This is a new homebrew shop in Westminster, a great place to get your supplies while we are closed.

Le Garage - Beer Bar & Frites: Extending their $35 Restaurant Week dinner special; $5 for each prix fixe menu will be donated, plus $1 for each special beer flight!

Birroteca: Order the special cocktail Pupule Wai ("crazy water" in Hawaiian), these folks are donating $1 for each one sold!

Flying Dog Brewery: Proceeds from their tasting room will benefit Ellicott City while the staff is donating tips to help Nepenthe!

PLUS there are a few more fundraisers in the works that we'll post about when they are confirmed.

Thank you all again, we're so grateful for your support.

Hello again! We have had a lot of folks asking how they can volunteer to clear out the mess with us. We will be doing most of the cleaning Tuesday (Aug 2) starting at 11am (after we meet with our insurance claim adjuster first thing in the morning) and need as many extra hands as we can get. We have a range of tasks that need to be done, including sorting, photographing, hauling, and cleaning. Dress for mess, because despite spending the last two days clearing most of it out, there is still a LOT of mud left.

We also need a few people with trucks - anything we can salvage we will be relocated to a storage facility, so if you are willing to drive some stuff, we can use your help! Additionally, we could use a couple digital cameras to help photograph all of the destroyed inventory for our insurance company.

Depending on how much we get done on Tuesday we may or may not need more volunteers on Wednesday. We'll post again when we have a better idea.

Thank you all again for the support and kind words. We are so grateful to have you as friends and family.
