Help for Annika
On June 16th, 2016, Mike Nyantakyi received a wonderful early Fathers Day gift when his wife, Annika, gave birth to her and Mike's beautiful daughter, Madison. Throughout her pregnancy, Annika had an issue with high blood pressure.
After Annika had baby Madison, her pressure went up even higher, so instead of going home to enjoy the first days as a new parents, she had to stay in the hospital for a few additional days.
Over the last week, Annika has been having more trouble breathing, especially when trying to sleep. She would wake up sweating and said it felt like a brick was on her chest. She finally went to the ER last Friday, where the doctors discovered that she only has 10% of her heart functioning, and it was due to a condition that she acquired from the pregnancy called cardiomyopathy.
Cardiomyopathy is a heart muscle disease where the heart muscle is abnormal. It makes it harder for your heart to pump and deliver blood to the rest of your body. Sadly, it can lead to heart failure.
Treatment varies, Annika might have to get a pacemaker, or if severe enough, sometimes coronary artery bypass or heart transplantation is required. Right now, she is in the hospital indefinitely. She being forced to file for disability and will not be able to work with this condition.
Mike has been a Richmond City Police Officer for almost a decade, making sacrifices, leaving his family at night, on the weekends, and holidays to help the less fortunate and the needy.
Mike is one of the best guys I know, very down to earth with a huge heart and always has a smile on his face. Mike saved up and used his available leave time for the birth of his child, and now this unfortunate event has happened, leaving him responsible to care for his sweet wife and baby Madison with no paid leave time available to use.
While he is on leave without pay, he is still expected to pay for health insurance and other bills that would keep a roof over their head, the lights on and food in their bellies. So please help this loving family with what you can.
