Samiah Bishop's Recovery

Hi, my name is Andrea Bishop and I am the mother of Samiah Bishop. I am creating this page to get as much support for her as possible.
I am a single mother of a four-year-old daughter in preschool, a twelve-year-old son in middle school, and my fourteen-year-old high school daughter (Samiah) who is in the intensive care unit at the University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
While trick-or-treating with friends on Saturday, October 31st at about 9:00 p.m., Samiah was hit by a vehicle near Ellsworth Rd. and Silverleaf Dr. in Ypsilanti, MI . Friends and neighbors searched for Samiah but were unable to locate her at the scene. This is because she was hit by a second vehicle that dragged her nearly two miles to the area of Michigan Ave. and I-94, where she was dislodged in the roadway. The driver of the first vehicle stopped and called 911, telling a dispatcher he hit her but couldn't find her. Police are searching for the driver of the second vehicle. An investigation is ongoing. Officers told me they did not know how my daughter had managed to survive the incident.
Samiah remains in critical condition, but I am thankful that her injuries were not fatal. While several organs sustained injury, she also has substantial lacerations and burns to her skin, a fractured pelvis and spinal discs, as well as other trauma to her body. She underwent multiple surgeries within her first hours in the emergency room, and an additional surgery five days later. Several more surgeries are anticipated as time goes on. Doctors predict that she will remain in the Intensive Care Unit for approximately two weeks, after which she will be moved to a regular hospital room. Altogether her hospitalization and rehab could last six months to a year.
During this time, the hospital has requested that two people stay with Samiah 24-hours a day. As her mother, I am one of the designated individuals. This presents quite a hardship to my two other school-aged children. I lack transportation and rely on friends, family and public transportation to make the 30-mile round trip drive between my home and the hospital daily. I depend on others to transport my 4-year-old to preschool and to be home with both children when they return from school each day.
In the near future I will need to secure the type of housing that will allow Samiah proper access to the necessities of the home. When Samiah is released to our care, she will have physical restrictions for some time. We will need to live in a home that is free of stairs and is ADA compliant.
Everyday expenses are an issue. The money from this campaign will be used primarily for housing, transportation, food and child care during Samiah's recovery. It's difficult to ask for help, but my daughter's situation has our expenses rising through the roof.
We need these funds immediaetly. I am a single mother with disabilities. My own health issues do not allow me to maintain strenuous employment. As a result, I have enrolled in college to obtain a skill or trade that would allow me to work to my physical potential. I have been taking classes toward a degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology. The only funds coming into our household are the result of my student scholarship. These funds may be circumvented, as my role as a student is replaced by my new role as Samiah's caretaker. I will potentially not be able to continue on this path until my daughter is well again.
The amount I am trying to raise is an estimate of how much I would need in order to support Samiah and her siblings, now, and into the near future. The generosity of family and friends has meant so much to us. Continued support will make Samiah's recovery much easier. The money will provide me with the resources to meet Samiah's needs, without jeopardizing the custodial and other care that is needed by her siblings.
