Scott Berry cancer fund

Donation protected
We are a group of friends of Scott Berry and his family who are setting up this GoFundMe account on Scott’s behalf to assist him and his family in their financial need due to Scott’s SECOND (2ND) diagnosis and treatment of metastatic throat and neck cancer in just over two years.

In November 2013, Scott Berry was diagnosed with metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head, throat, and neck. The initial site of the cancer was located on the right side of Scott’s neck and throat area and he underwent three surgical procedures to remove as much of the tumor and cancer as possible. The surgeries were followed up early in 2014 with extensive chemotherapy and radiation treatments that left Scott unable to work for almost the entire year.

In 2015, Scott, his wife Lisa (who is employed as the secretary and bookkeeper for their town’s local junior high school) and their three sons thought their lives were finally returning to normal. Scott seemed to be cancer free and had recovered enough to return to work on a part time basis. Then in early 2016, another tumor was discovered in the left side of his neck which also proved to be malignant.

The cancer had returned and “jumped”, as his doctor’s put it, from one side of his neck to the other. This was such an unusual and unexpected development that Scott was referred to other specialists to help determine the best course of treatment. A few weeks later, Scott met with the doctors at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, hoping to get an encouraging report and a clear plan on how to treat this rare form of cancer. M.D. Anderson quickly created a treatment plan to be implemented by his local-area oncologists and doctors in Huntsville, Alabama. The treatment plan involves another round of chemotherapy and thirty nine additional radiation treatments on his neck. Those treatments are currently taking place and the new chemotherapy drug they are using has proven to have far more serious and debilitating side effects than the first treatment Scott went through.

Scott is again too sick to work and has several more weeks of chemo and radiation treatments to endure. Despite all this, still- somehow- Scott manages to remain very upbeat & positive and is an inspiration to all who cross his path.

Needless to say, the financial aftermath of dealing with this terrible disease has taken a substantial toll on the family’s savings/finances and we are asking you to join us in our efforts to help take some of the financial worry away from this family. Scott is a very humble and unassuming person and has always been at the forefront of helping others in need. Now, in Scott’s time of need, we would like to return the favor.

GoFundMe requires an initial monetary starting goal when setting up an account, so we have arbitrarily set our goal at $25,000. It is our hope, however, that this initial goal will be quickly surpassed as we realistically anticipate this amount will not be adequate to sustain Scott and his family until he completes his treatment and is able to return to work.

All donated funds are deposited automatically in an account set up by GoFundMe with Scott as the beneficiary of those funds.

Thank you for making a donation and joining our team as we do everything possible to try and help Scott Berry and his family during this extremely difficult and stressful time in their lives.

Respectfully,
Friends of Scott Berry and Family
