Syrian Refugees Displaced by Fire
Donation protected
Ten of Coquitlam's refugee newcomer families who arrived earlier this year from war-torn Syria are homeless again. Their apartment building caught fire today and they are once again living their days not knowing where they'll be next. This is devastating - especially after everything they've already suffered.
Thankfully, everyone made it out safely but fire and water have damaged the building significantly and these families - many of whom have multiple children - will be in need of numerous possessions to rebuild their lives once again. If you can help - and every little bit helps - please do. This fund will be utilized 100% to purchase household items, clothing, personal items etc. to assist their transtition back to their day-to-day lives here in our city. Thank you very much.
My name is Teri Towner and I am a Coquitlam City Councillor. When the Syrians arrived to our city earlier this year, the community outpouring of help was so vast that a Task Group to harness this generousity was formed. I am the chair of this group, the Tri-Cities Friends of Refugees Task Group.
I, as well as my Task Group colleagues, have regular (multiple times per week) contact with these families through our initiatives and once they've been placed back into housing, we will be able to determine their needs and allocate these funds directly towards these specific needs. Thank you very much.
