My name is K'Ron Simmons and I am a thinker. Over the years I have had many strong and innovative ideas that I would have brought to market if I had the necessary infrastructure to do so. For example, this past year I had an idea of a gesture-based universal remote that would allow anyone to control their home environment with a series of hand movements. A full schedule and rigorous academic program prevented me from having the time to seek out the resources I would have needed to pursue this idea and gauge its true market potential and value. In my endeavor to accomplish these goals, I learned that it takes a village and we don’t always have to do it on our own. This is a reminder for any young professional who’s self-taught, attending school, or not. A reminder that you are not alone and this new social platform will further prove that.
Imagine I had access to a pre-professional network where I could have crowdsourced skill sets to help me. Wouldn’t it have been terrific if I could have found someone who had skill sets that would complement my own; others who could have helped me build and market an idea? What are the benefits of building a network across disciplines, majors, and interests? First, the opportunity to pursue truly innovative ideas rather than let them languish in a classroom discussion or as an addendum to a term paper. Second, opportunities for collaborative learning among bright, innovative and ambitious young men and women.
Add that to the real-life practical benefits of learning how to network, build a team, enhance my resume and gain more confidence to take risks. Think of my program as building an internal entrepreneurial network for young professionals with a passion for making the next “big” idea a reality.
My ultimate goal is to not only help students but also young professionals narrow the chasm between the comfort and security of college and the professional world that lies beyond some form of schooling and a diploma.
In order to make this dream a reality, I propose to develop an application utilizing many different web technologies to build a strong and safe community. This application isn’t meant to secure employment for students. It’s meant to help young professionals connect with each other and grow as individual’s so that finding a job or starting a business of their own is much easier.
Knowledge is great, but having several years of practical experience, comfort and confidence are even better.
Although I have designed applications and websites in the past, the scope of this project is simply too big to do on my own. I need help and I’m looking to build a team.
