The David Anderton memorial walk

So a year ago my dad was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease, not many people are aware of what this is but it is a faulty gene that you're born with that progressively kills nerve cells in the brain. It is also inherited from a parent meaning I have a 50% chance of having it. Having it leads to movement problems usually involuntary at the start but in later stages it can affect your ability to walk. It affects your behaviour leading calm mild mannered people to often turn aggressive and affects their ability to socialise with other people. It also has an affect on the brain mentally causing depression and impulsiveness. In the later stages you can lose your speech and have difficulty swallowing making it hard to eat. It affected my dads ability to sleep, the week leading up to his death he had about an hours sleep per night which lead him to think irrationally. 1 in 4 People that have Huntington's disease take their own life. They either don't want to deteriorate beyond their control or they lose the emotional side of their personality. They lose the ability to empathise with their family and think of how it is going to affect them. This is what happened to my dad, he was very vacant and emotionless and had trouble communicating his feelings. He had sudden mood swings of anger. He was angry that the job he had worked at for 34 years had been taken away from him due to his illness. He was angry that his driving license he'd had since he was 20 had been taken away from him due to this horrible illness. Huntington's disease takes away independence and he was sick of it controlling his life so he took action. On the morning of the 9th of July my dad walked in front of a train. He left a note for me and my mum but it was more of a list of reasons why it had come to this. He was sick of this illness, he wouldn't of thought of the train driver or the people on the train, he wouldn't of thought of the full affect it would have left on my mum or me or my daughter Isla. His brain had left him without the ability to think of the full consequences of his actions. He'd just had enough. More and more research is being done into Huntington's Disease treatments and I pray that if I have the disease which I am currently being tested for, by the time the symptoms kick in for me they may have found a cure that switches this faulty gene off. I would like to raise awareness and help raise money for that the Huntington's Disease Association that supports people who have the disease as well as supporting their families. I hope one day somebody finds a cure to put a stop to this horrible disease that tears families apart. Myself and whoever would like to join me will be walking up Snowdon as a memorial to my dad using the Llanberis Path on the 27th August at 11am and finishing around 5pm. If anyone is interested please message me and if anyone would like to donate money to the Huntington's Disease Association it would be kindly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
