Sub Vet Memorial Landscaping
We are part of the National USSVI which is made up of past and present submarine sailors. Our purpose is "Perpetuate the memory of our shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of their duties while serving their country. That their dedication, deeds and supreme sacrifice be a constant source of motivation toward greater accomplishments. Pledge loyalty and patriotism to the United States of America and its Constitution.
We need to now landscape the memorial with additional lighting, benches, irrigation and plantings. We would like to complete this before any more of our members go on their Eternal Patrol. We have 2 surviving WW II vets left in our group. These men were part of a small and forgot group that held the line right after Pearl Harbor until our surface fleet was repaired and rebuilt. 52 submarines were lost and 3506 submariners were lost. 1 in 4 was the expect loss ratio and yet these men volunteered and would go out on patrols again and again.
The memorial can be seen at 502 Bethel Rd., Somers Point, NJ. Please help complete this project in memory of all those lost at sea and those members that have work so hard on this Memorial and did see it completed and before we lose any more members.
I, myself one of the younger members being only 61 and having served in the new nuclear submarine Navy can not thank you enough for taking the time to read this and for what ever you can donate to help finaize the Beautiful memorial. You can learn more about the Submarine Veterans at http:// www.ussvi.org or our local base at http://www.ussvi.org/base/EggHarbor.asp.
If you can't donate right now at least share this link on your Facebook page to help spread the word. We just need to get our word out. Was hoping we would have made it by Memorial Day but still working on it.
Now if we could find a submarine's sail to put next to our torpedo it would be perfect. Please help if you can and remember give us a SHARE please.
