Riley's Medical Fund

Donation protected
When Riley was four years old, he joined a wonderful organization in our community, the O’Neill Leprechaun Youth Sports Program and became a wrestler.  As a 3rd grader he began his participation in the O’Neill Leprechaun Football program, it was during these years we recognized his love of competition and his warrior spirit.  A medical condition with his knee showed its ugly face when Riley was approximately  five years old and throughout the years has been a source of terrific pain and finally resulted in two surgeries which have not corrected the problem.  His family will now travel to Chicago, IL to Rush Medical University in September to obtain additional surgery, in which we hope and pray will give this brave, non-complaining 14 year old grandson of ours a future without pain, and a prognosis which encompasses positive knee health and the passions dear to him, football, wrestling, discus and shooting sports.

Riley attends O’Neill Public High School and he continues to show everyone how strong his fighting spirit is, he sits on the sidelines each day at practice, doing whatever he can to support his football brothers, not able to participate as he now has “kissing lesions” on his tibia and femur, in other words there is cartilage missing so it is bone to bone contact and at times very painful.  It is rare you hear him complain he just powers through and looks to the future.

In October of 2015, after years of on and off pain in his left knee, several different diagnosis, and many ice bags and painkillers later his lateral meniscus was removed.  During the next few days after surgery he once again exuded his warrior spirit, not complaining and looking forward.

The second surgery to clean up cartilage in his knee in August of 2016, revealed how serious his knee condition is, he now needs a meniscus transplant, an osteotomy, a procedure where a surgeon cuts the thigh or shin bone to realign the leg, shifting the weight-bearing burden from the painful portion of the knee, where cartilage is missing or damaged, to a healthier stronger portion of the knee, and a cartilage regeneration surgery in Chicago, Illinois. The trip to see one of the nation’s most renowned orthopedic surgeons and one of the few who perform the three procedures will be expensive. Although his family has health insurance coverage, the added financial burdens including travel expenses, co-pays, aftercare, follow up visits, and time away from work will quickly add up.

Just like any parent or grandparent would hope for their children and grandchildren, we want our grandson to be able to lead a happy and pain free life, nothing will stand in the way of his family’s dedication and Riley’s own ”Warrior Spirit”  Please consider helping this family enable their warrior to persevere, every child deserves to live pain free and recognize and pursue their dreams.  THANK YOU from all of us and from the depths of our hearts.
