Pennytown Church Vital Repairs

Friends of Pennytown Historic Site, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is raising funds to repair and preserve the Pennytown Freewill Baptist Church, the last remaining structure of Pennytown, Missouri, an historic black hamlet. This church, which was painstakingly renovated and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, is in need of vital repairs that will enable it to continue to stand as the sole marker of this once thriving African American community.

We ask for your help in raising $3000 over the next month in order to replace sections of the church floor as well as wood on the exterior of the church. One hundred percent of funds raised during this campaign will go toward maintaining and insuring the church structure. Friends of Pennytown Historic Site has no paid employees. Our sole mission is to preserve the Pennytown Freewill Baptist Church as a functioning place of worship for future generations of family, friends, and supporters of Pennytown Historic Site.

We will be raising money in person at our annual Pennytown Homecoming on Sunday, August 7th. We invite anyone who can attend to donate at that event, but we also urge you to give here if you can. This online part of the campaign will raise money specifically for the purpose of repairing the church structure.

We truly appreciate any help you can offer. Your generosity will not be forgotten!
